“And then you brought that Ho home, and the two of you were all over each other. She had her fucking tongue down your throat. Don’t tell me you loved me when you were sleeping with other women. Now, either you leave or I will.”

“I’ll go to the hotel, but that’s as far as I’m going. When you are released, you’re going home with me. I wasn’t the one who got married. You shattered my heart into a million pieces. But all of that is going to change. We might argue for the first year, but we’ll be together for the rest of our lives. You are having my babies and only mine,” I bent down and kissed her. I thought both of us would melt right there in that hospital room. “Now, tell me we don’t belong together.”

“I love him so much,” I said after Ryan left the room. “I feel like crap. Those bastards thought they were going to keep me for themselves. This is scary if these men do this in the middle of the day. What are we going to do about this human trafficking?”

I forgot the nurse was in the room. She was wiping her eyes. “Why did you marry that mean Jim?”

“I was a stupid, jealous woman who was too stubborn to wait until Ryan decided it was our time. So I married a mean man and regretted it the same day, I told Jim I had made a mistake and that I loved Ryan. He told me he would kill Ryan if I left him. Every time he got drunk, he would tell me that.”

“Why don’t you tell Ryan how you feel,” Bailey said, sitting at the bottom of my bed.

“Because he hurt me, and he never once told me he loved me.”

“I have always loved you. I’m sorry I never said the words. I have never told anyone else I love them because you are my only love. Please forgive me. Give me a chance to prove how much I love you.”

I looked around, and now two nurses were wiping their eyes. “I want to, Ryan, but I have this deeply engrained anger against you. I know we haven’t spoken in years. I’m not that same person I was.”

“Yes, you are,” Ryan said.

“No, I am not. I’m not the easy-going, happy person I used to be. I go around frowning all the time, and Toby is gone. I don’t have anyone left.”

“How about you try us, and if you can’t get over your hatred of me, then I won’t bother you anymore.”

“I don’t hate you. I wish I did, but I love you. I have to have my own room. I’m not going to sleep in a room where your other women have been.”

“No woman has ever slept in my bed. Thank you for giving us a chance.”

“I don’t know how it will work out, so don’t get your hopes up. I’m going to sleep now. All of you should go home.”

“I’m staying here with you,” Ryan said.

I gave Bailey five minutes; I knew she couldn’t hold her excitement any longer. “Can you believe this? They have to stay together. I could write a romance novel out of their story, and I don’t even write. It’s such a tear-jerker. Ryan should surprise Carly with a new puppy, so she knows she’ll always have someone to love.”

“He actually got Carly a puppy last week, and he’s picking it up on Thursday.”

“How have they managed to stay apart for so long? It’s clear that there’s a strong connection between them, just like the one we share. The air sizzles when we are together.

“Yeah, sweetheart, I’m sizzling a lot right now. I'll show you as soon as we get back to our room.”

“I was hoping you would say that. That’s why I brought up the connection,” Bailey said, moving closer. We headed home, as there was a wedding to prepare and Izzy needed help decorating.

“I hope Carly gets out of the hospital in time for our wedding,” Bailey said as we pulled up onto the driveway. The first person we saw was Carly’s mother, and I wasn’t in the mood for a confrontation with that woman.

“Hello, can we help you?” Bailey asked, eyeing Delores

“You sure can. I want to know where Carly is.”

“Carly is in the hospital.”

“All that girl wants is attention. This town thinks I’m the mean mother, and I’m tired of Carly getting herself into these situations. I want to talk to her.”

“Are you Carly’s mother?” Bailey inquired; her anger noticeable.
