“Yes, I’m her mother. She’s embarrassed me with her obsession over Ryan Reed. Where is Ryan?”

“Listen, three men kidnaped Carly—cartel members who nearly killed her. Carly is an amazing woman, and Ryan is at the hospital with her. He loves Carly deeply. If you don’t have something nice to say to your daughter, it’s best if you keep your mouth shut,” Bailey firmly stated before walking away, leaving Delores flabbergasted.

Bailey stopped and turned back around, “You’re a mean woman. Everyone on this mountain says so,” Delores stood there with her mouth hanging open.

She looked at me. “Well, that girl needs to learn some manners,” she said before walking down the driveway.

I called after her. “Bailey has more manners in her little finger than you have in your entire body.”

The wedding was scheduled for tomorrow, and Ryan and Carly arrived home yesterday. It seemed they had gotten over their arguing. Carly was sleeping in Ryan’s room, and their love was undeniable.

Bailey looked at me, smiling. “I wonder if Ryan and Carly want to get married while Izzy’s yard looks so beautiful?”

“I won’t ask Ryan. Let’s do our marriage and let Ryan and Carly do theirs. They have waited years to be together. We don’t need to rush anything.”

“You’re right. I just want everyone to be as happy as I am.”

“They will be. Let’s give them the chance to get to know each other.”

“I need to run to the cabin and get some things for our wedding. I want to wear some of Jackie’s stuff when I get married. Jackie loved making her own hair clips, and I want to wear one when we are pronounced man and wife.

“I’ll come with you if you don’t mind.”

“I’d love for you to come with me. Let’s take a walk there. It’s such beautiful day,” I held Bailey’s hand, and we walked. I was pleasantly surprised to see all the progress on the cabin.

“This is going to be amazing. Look at how much is done,” Bailey said, admiring the open kitchen and family room, the contractors were working on. “We can move back in sooner than I thought,” Bailey said.

As we headed back, we spotted Steel trying to catch some German Shepard puppies. We chuckled when two puppies darted in front of him, causing him to stumble.

Why don’t you help instead of laughing? Bailey, you can choose your puppy right now. Can you two help me take them back home?” Steel asked. “What did the police do about the shooting with those cartels that kidnapped Carly?”

“They didn’t say much. I got the feeling they were relieved we took care of them.”

“You didn’t kill all of them, Cole; one of them took his own life. I want everyone to know that because three sounds like you’re a killer, but two doesn’t sound as bad,” Bailey insisted.

“Thank you for clarifying that, sweetheart.”

“You’re welcome. Levi, where did you get all these puppies?”

“Mertle had them. Ryan took one for Carly, and I still have seven left. If you take one, that leaves me six to find homes for.”

“What about Jaz? Does she want one?”

“Jaz already has two big dogs, so I think she has her hands full.”

“They’re adorable. I can’t take one today because I live at Ryan’s house, but I'll come get one as soon as we move back home. I want this one right here. It’ll be my first dog.”

“You can take him now, and he can play with Carly’s puppy.”

“That’s right. Ryan got Carly’s puppy today, and Sam can play with it. Do you like the name Sam?” she asked me with a smile. I wrapped my arms around her and kissed her.

“Sam is the perfect name for your puppy,” I remarked.

“Levi, is Uncle Joe still going to walk me down the aisle tomorrow?” Bailey inquired.

“Yes, he’s looking forward to the wedding.”
