Hunter nodded as his eyes stayed fixed on Tate as he attempted to stand. Pawtson, who was three months old and seven pounds on her best day, stoically stood so Tate could use her for support if needed.

As I made my way into my kitchen, I glanced back to see Hunter holding Tate in his arms. I’d really come to love and appreciate Nick and Brielle over these last several months, but it certainly couldn’t be missed whose son Tate was.

The thought made me chuckle as I filled the vase with water and watched Hunter, Tate, and Pawtson pile into the house. I let the flowers spread into their willowy form and took a sip of my mocha.

“Mmm. Delicious.” I glanced at Hunter. “Can you believe Brielle finally realized Buttercup Lake’s coffee shop is the best in the world?”

“Buttercup Lake has a way of doing that. We just wear people down.”

I chuckled, shaking my head. “So, what’s your plan for next week?”

He put Tate down on the rug in the living room and Pawtson happily played with Tate’s teddy bear.

“I was thinking of letting Michelle handle the bar.”

My brows rose in surprise. “Two weeks in a row?”

He smiled, nodding. “I’ve been thinking about opening a place up here too.”

“You’ve mentioned that a few times, but I wasn’t sure if you were serious about that.”

I followed Hunter into the living room and sat on the couch.

“Oh, no.” Hunter groaned. “I forgot his lunch at the house.” His eyes connected with mine. “You know, there might be a simple solution to all this back and forth.”

My brows quirked. “Oh, yeah? What’s that?” I feigned innocence as he laughed, shaking his head.

“Well, let’s load up and drive the three houses down.”

“I can just stay here.” I shook my head.

“No, Purrlock has been very annoying all day. I think she wants to see Pawtson, and I know you won’t let her out of your sight.”

“Okay. Sounds good. You hear that, Pawtson? We’re headed to our vacation home.”

Hunter laughed and shook his head, picking up Tate. “I’ll go get him fastened in the car seat.”

“Okay, I’ll be right out.”

Hunter shut the door behind him as I grabbed Pawtson’s leash and hooked it on her sparkling turquoise collar before I grabbed her favorite dog toy.

We walked out of the house with my mocha in hand, and I climbed into the front seat of Hunter’s car as I looked over at Foxy.

Three weeks ago, she’d taken a turn, and I knew it was over.

But I just couldn’t bear to let her go yet, so she stayed in my driveway.

Hunter handed me a blindfold, and I chuckled. “That’s a little kinky for the middle of the day, don’t you think?”

Hunter burst into laughter and shook his head. “Just put it on.”

I stared at the pink blindfold and happily obliged.

Hunter backed out of the driveway, and I started to get a little tense. I wasn’t exactly sure what was going on, but it felt like we were headed toward Hunter’s house.

As soon as we sped up, we slowed down, and I realized we really were heading to Hunter’s. So why the blindfold? My hands started to raise toward it, and Hunter chuckled.

“Keep the blindfold on.”
