I smiled. “Okay, but I’m pretty sure we’re at your house.”

Hunter turned off the car and went behind us to unbuckle Tate. Pawtson was getting antsy on my lap as Hunter opened the door. He gave me his hand and helped me out of the car while he held Tate.

“Okay, we’re just headed up the walkway a few steps and then I want you to turn around.”

“Alright, I can handle that.”

I squeezed my little pug and whispered, “Your detective skills are really lacking, Pawtson. You’re supposed to be telling me what’s going on.”

But I did exactly as Hunter said while holding Pawtson tightly. “Aren’t blindfolds meant for not knowing where we’re going?”

Hunter draped his arm around me while Tate’s little foot kicked me in the gut.

“Ooh,” I said, laughing, catching his toes so he didn’t do it again.

“It’s time to remove your blindfold.”

I reached up and my fingers clutched the pink fabric. I wasn’t sure what to expect.

As I lifted my blindfold off, I stood in shock, staring at a new Subaru in bright red with a huge silver bow on top.

“Uh, Hunter? Why’s there a bow on top of a car?” I spun slowly to look at Hunter and Tate as Pawtson wiggled in my arms.

“It’s for you, Daisy. I know how sad you were about Foxy, but you do need a car.” He ruffled Tate’s hair and brought his gaze to mine. “You drive Tate all around, and it just seemed… practical.”

“This isn’t practical, Hunter. This is huge. I don’t even know what to say.” I shook my head. “I can’t accept her.”

“It’s a her?”

I nodded, noticing how the headlights looked like they winked at me. “But it’s too much.”

“We’re a family,” Hunter said softly. “What’s mine is yours, and what’s yours is mine.

“No matter how much you want my naughty gnome, you can’t have her,” I joked as his words flowed through me. Tate looked tickled to see the big bow on top of the red wagon.

“Go ahead, check it out.” Hunter nodded toward the car.

I took a deep breath and made my way toward the car. Part of me felt like I was cheating on Foxy, but when I opened Scarlett’s door and the new car smell drifted over me, excitement pulsed through me.

“Hunter, I can’t believe this.” I set my drink in the amazing drink holder and hopped up on my toes to give him a kiss.

He grinned and opened the back door and put Tate inside as Pawtson hopped over to the passenger seat. Hunter slid in next to his son.

“I have a matching car seat in the garage.”

I glanced at Hunter in the rearview mirror and his smile only widened.

“Go ahead, open the console.”

“Okay,” I said, unsure of what to expect.

As I lifted the lid, I saw a key to his house.

“I know you know the code to get into my house, but I thought this was more official.”

I held it tight and smiled as Tate reached his hand out for the key.

“Sorry, buddy. This is a choking hazard.” I looked into Hunter’s eyes through the mirror and smiled. “I never expected this to happen. I’m just in shock. A car and a key?”
