Working the clasp of my bra with one hand while his other expertly moved along my body created an intense frenzy of need. I’d always daydreamed about being kissed by Hunter, but this was extraordinary.

Hunter tugged my sweater over my head as I slid my hands along his chiseled abdomen before I worked my bra off. It fell to the floor as he pulled his jeans down. I reached for his briefs and pushed them down as a smile spread across Hunter’s expression. His eyes canvassed down my body as I wiggled my hips to work my pants down.

“Daisy, you’re what dreams are made of.” His voice was gruff, but his touch was so tender as he moved over me.

His mouth sealed along my nipple with gentle teasing as his other hand worked down my thigh, coming to the warmth between my legs.

“I think I might be ready,” I teased.

Hunter lifted his head and laughed, nuzzling my nose before kissing me again. His touch was gentle yet firm. His moves were a perfect balance that sent shivers down my spine.

The vulnerability of the moment was unmistakable. I turned over onto my stomach and glanced over my shoulder as his smile widened, bringing his gaze to mine. He slowly worked his hands down my spine, sending a shiver of anticipation through me. His fingers were replaced with his mouth, the dampness of his tongue gliding along my spine as I felt his body against mine.

“Hunter,” I whispered as his other hand slid around me between my thighs. “You’re incredible.”

Hunter shook his head as his gaze stormed with need. He flipped me back over, and a shudder of anticipation shot through me. The need between us was insatiable.

In his embrace, I felt a profound sense of belonging and comfort. The hormones were racing through me, but it was more than just a physical attraction between us. Our minds and bodies were connected through our hearts. We were taking down our walls brick by brick, and the troubles from the outside world could wait. Right now, it was just us, and that was all that mattered.

Hunter’s gaze locked on mine as he slid inside me. His fullness expanded me almost to the brink as I closed my eyes in ecstasy, allowing myself to sink deeper into the feelings that surrounded us. His breathing quickened with every thrust. My breaths came faster as I tightened around him, my head lolling in extreme passion. I’d never felt anything like this.

Hunter’s breaths came faster and harder as my world shattered into a complex roar of emotions. His deep moan melted into me as I felt our bodies collide.

It was okay to finally let go. What we’d shared was a beautiful, complex mix of love and longing to be heard.

His breathing was ragged as my legs wrapped around his waist, and his eyes steadied on mine. “I’ve never…”

I nodded, cutting him off. “Same.”

He brought me into his arms, kissing me along my neck and back to my mouth.

To be this physically and emotionally close exhilarated me, but I couldn’t help but feel a little dread. What if I lost him too?

But as I listened to the steady beat of his heart, a sense of peace washed over me. It was as if every pump echoed a silent promise of hope, respect, and warmth.

Hunter propped himself on his elbows, his eyes searching mine as our worlds had totally combined. The intense warmth in his gaze made me feel cherished and wanted. His expression spoke volumes, but when his mouth pressed to mine again, I knew the magic of the season only enhanced what we already knew. We were falling in love.

I lay in his arms, thinking about all the hopes and dreams that were developing within me. I secretly hoped for a future with Hunter. And like he’d said, there would always be moments of joy along with distinct challenges, but if we were together, we’d be stronger.

“I think I’m falling in love with you, Hunter,” I whispered.

“Then maybe I can finally stop hoping and wishing.” He smiled. “My plan is finally working.” He growled in my ear before peppering more kisses along my body.

“What plan was that?”

“To have you by Christmas. I told you hope was a powerful thing.”

I closed my eyes, savoring the warmth of his lips against me, sinking deeper into the emotions that wrapped around us. Love, desire, hope—they all entwined, creating a tapestry of emotions that built my safe haven for the first time in… forever.

Chapter Sixteen

Hunter

The relentless voice in my head made me second-guess Daisy’s intentions. Maybe she really did just need someone to talk to without feeling like there was an ulterior motive. But there was more to it than that. We both felt it.

Yesterday, after Daisy left, my brain wouldn’t stop spinning. It was like one minute, our attraction sparked hotter than ever, zinging each of us with electricity we couldn’t explain, and then the next, it turned into a complete friend zone.

She was really hard to read.
