They were shaped like…

Mine.

And his nose looked like mine when I was a baby, and the strong brow line. My pulse quickened as I stared at the phone as her finger swiped to the next photo. She didn’t have to tell me for me to know.

An overwhelming amount of confusion swept through me.

“I don’t understand.”

“We thought I was pregnant with Nick’s baby. But after I had him, Nick started questioning me more about our timeline. You know, Nick has red hair, green eyes, and is so fair.”

I drew a breath.

“And you clearly do not.”

“What are you telling me?”

“Nick wasn’t upset about it, but he did want me to do a DNA test.”

I leaned into the table, waiting for her to say it.

But I already knew.

I had a son.

“The test proved that Nick wasn’t the father, and I’d only slept with you and Nick.”

My body warmed with something I hadn’t expected.

Curiosity.

Love.

Yearning.

“And you can just tell by looking.” She laughed.

“I’m in shock.”

She nodded. “I bet.”

“What’s his name?”

“Tate.”

I smiled, looking at the next picture of him. “He’s adorable.” I looked up at Brielle. “He’s actually the cutest baby out there.”

She finally cracked a smile. “Tate is a handful. He reminds me of you.”

“Where is he? I’d like to meet him.”

“Back at the hotel with the nannies.”

“I just… I just need a second to regroup.” I stared at the photo of Tate.

“I don’t know how much you want to be involved…” Her voice trailed off.

“Fully. I want to be there every second.” Realizing that wasn’t possible, I shook my head. “As often as possible.”
