“Spin for me,” I said softly, taking her in.

She chuckled, rolled her eyes, and turned around slowly.

The gown flowed like a sculptural masterpiece as her eyes met mine. “You approve?”

I couldn’t wipe the grin off my face as I pulled her into me and kissed her.

A warm and affectionate giggle fell from her lips as she pulled away and glanced at her sister.

James and Amelia drove Emily over to my place in the city, and we were all going to leave together for the party.

But it was like they weren’t even here. Emily gave me tunnel vision.

“Should we get going?” James asked, glancing at his phone. “The car is waiting downstairs.”

“Sounds good.” I reached for my tuxedo jacket and slid it on as Emily’s eyes lit up in satisfaction.

James and Amelia were already headed back toward the elevator bank as Emily stared at me.

“You clean up nice,” she said, running her fingers along my lapel.

“Every once in a while, I can trade jeans for this.”

Emily slid a kiss across my cheek before I locked the door behind me.

I ran my hands along her spine, feeling her bare skin underneath my fingertips. If it weren’t for it being my parents’ party, I’d turn us around and stay in bed all night.

The elevator chimed, and we all stepped inside.

“You ready to dance in front of everyone tonight?” her sister teased.

I laughed, keeping my hand on her back for reassurance. “Believe it or not, Emily and I have been practicing, and she’s amazing at the fox trot.”

“Okay. I’m impressed.” Amelia chuckled as the carriage opened on the main floor and we walked into the lobby.

The waiting SUV was already at the curb, and we all wandered outside to feel a gentle nip in the air.

“Spring is having a hard time making up its mind,” James muttered as he opened the car door for all of us.

“I’ll get in first since my dress is less restrictive,” Amelia joked, climbing inside as James helped her.

Emily glanced at me and whisperedlove youas she crawled up into the SUV, holding my hand as she teetered on the edge.

“This isn’t the most practical dress.” She laughed, trying to squirm into the seat as I got in after her.

“I could breathe in it just fine earlier, but now it feels like I need to get rid of a rib or something.” She sucked in a breath and looked at me with the seatbelt in her hand. “Could you?”

I nodded and reached over, buckling her in as she thanked me and the driver pulled into traffic.

“So, your parents are renewing their vows?” my cousin asked, knowing the answer. “Doesn’t that jinx things?”

I laughed. “I’ve heard that, but I don’t think my parents are going anywhere. They like bickering with each other too much.”

James laughed. “Indeed. And nine times out of ten, they agree about it the entire time they’re bickering.”

“Yeah. I don’t get it.”

“Maybe there’s something to that,” Amelia offered, leaning forward and tapping Emily’s shoulder. “You were always giving Lucas a hard time until recently.”
