“Ro?” I whispered, turning the door handle for our shared room, hoping like hell that she wouldn’t catch me doing the walk of shame and sneaking back into our room this early.

Unfortunately, while my lucklastnight had extended to multiple orgasms and the Prince who’d given them to me, clearly I was all out this morning. Audrey sat up, her pink sheets pooling on either side of her as she adjusted the sleep mask onto her hair—she insisted she couldn’t sleep without it.

I swallowed roughly as her stare pinned me to the door.

“Where were you? You didn’t text me to let me know you were okay or anything.” Her eyes scanned over me, and she grimaced. I’d tried to wipe my face the best I could in the bathroom downstairs, but I was still in rough shape.

Holding up my phone, I made a sheepish expression. “It died, and I forgot to plug it in.” It had been in my dress pocket all night, and I’d completely forgotten about our usual pact. We always told each other we were okay, so that the other person didn’t worry all night.

Except, with Charming, I’d been so enraptured it hadn’t even occurred to me.

“Did you have fun catching up with Parker?”

“Yes. Can you believe that after all these years, I found him again?”

I hummed in response, and Audrey’s eyebrows rose on her forehead. Moving over to the closet, I pulled out a large sorority t-shirt and shedding my dress onto the floor. It wasn’t as comfortable as Charming’s t-shirt had been, though that had ended up on the floor during our second round, and I mourned its loss. I wish I could have kept it. He was right—itwassoft. Damn, I wish I’d thought to ask what fabric softener he used.

“So we’re just not going to talk about you?” she asked, like she was noticing how I’d spaced out.

“Nope.” I flopped onto my bed, exhausted. I’d barely gotten a few hours of sleep before I’d snuck out of his room. As if he’d known the score, he made every second of last night count. I was sore in places I didn’t even know I could be, but it was one hell of a night.

Closing my eyes, I wasn’t surprised when I felt my bed move, Audrey settling on the bed beside me. It might have been a twin, but we were used to sharing such a small space. We always had been.

“Ella,” she whispered, and I let out a small sigh. “Are you okay?”

That was what had me opening my eyes, looking into hers with concern.

“Yeah,” I got out, though the word sounded more like a croak. “I’m fine.”

“If you’re sure…”

I was, wasn’t I? It wasn’t like I’d met the man of my dreams last night and then ran away from him. There was no reason I should feel this way about leaving a college hookup. He was a charming frat boy, and nothing more.

That was what I kept telling myself, at least. That it didn’t matter.

Because it hadn’t. It was just one night.

“Mmm.” I shut my eyes, pretending that the face I saw when I closed them wasn’t Charming’s.

I’d let myself dream for the rest of the weekend—it was the one thing I’d always been great at. When I’d get an idea in my head, it stuck with me for days, even weeks. But that meant nothing.

So, much like my lost shoes, I bid a silent goodbye to my Prince Charming, hoping that fate was kind to me once again.

And that I wouldn’t see him again.

If only fate could have been so kind.

CHAPTER 6

Cam

She’d left her shoes behind.

I couldn’t believe how stupid I was, not exchanging names. Last night had beenamazing, and I wanted to see her again. Just the few hours we’d spent together at the party, I’d been more interested in her than I had been in anyone inmonths.Years, even.

But she hadn’t wanted to swap names. And like an idiot, under the guise of Halloween—and cause I thought it was really fucking adorable when she called meCharmingin that sweet voice of hers—I agreed.

And despite everything, she’d left. I thought we’d had an enjoyable time together—a great time, even. Had I done something wrong? She’d been so enthusiastic last night, especially as I’d wrung pleasure out of her, and I’d liked how she was a little shy at first. Had I hurt her? I wouldn’t be able to forgive myself if I had.
