“Miles, I—” Whatever I’m attempting to say is stolen with the loud clicking of heels and then the appearance of a woman I was certain Rylie made sure didn’t know about this wedding.

Thea.

I don’t know her well, but I know enough from Rylie, Annabelle, and Macy to understand this woman is not welcomed in the group, even if her cousin is a pack member. She looks as trashy as she was described to me.

“Miles, I can’t find my seat,” she whines, staggering over to him. Even I can smell the liquor rolling off her in waves. It makes the twist in my stomach so much worse.

“Thea,” he growls, but does nothing to move away from me or release his hold.

“Come on, Mason is waiting for you,” she slurs and drapes herself on him, effectively separating us. “Who are you?” Her lips curl in a disgusted snarl while I’m doing everything within my power not to throw up.

“Just the maid of honor.” Turning, I force a cold smile at her wrinkled-up face just as Missy and Carter come around the corner with Rylie. “Well, we better get this show on the road.”

I don’t know what the hel—heck is going on, but I’m angry now. Why is she here? That’s the only thought I have as we line up. Miles is pulled away and rushed down the side hallway to the other entrance into the chapel, and then I’m walking out, head held up with pride for my friend, but I can’t stop myself from glaring at Miles the entire way down the aisle and throughout the ceremony.

My smile is as genuine as I can make it through pictures, and I do my best to avoid coming into contact with Miles again before I depart with Missy for the reception, leaving him behind with Thea hanging all over him.

Chapter Nineteen

Miles

You are a colossal fuckup.

Not now.

Yes, now, dumbass.

My grip tightens around the beer bottle that’s doing nothing to cool me down. Across the reception venue, also known as the Half Moon, Alexa smiles, laughs, and fuckingtouchesCarter Press.

Why is she comfortable with him being a werewolf but not me?

“I’m going to say it,” Brandon chirps.

“The hell you are. It’s my honor alone.” Derek shoves at him.

Roper snorts at the two before Macy walks by to distract Brandon, and Derek turns his ugly, shit-eating grin on me.

“We told you so,” Derek singsongs.

That’s what I’ve been saying.

“Fuck. Off.” Instead of yelling in my head, I just state it before lifting my beer to my lips.

This only causes the fucker who calls himself my friend to snicker. Looking away, I continue my patrol of Alexa. She was relaxing into me until Thea came out to ruin it. The damn woman didn’t have any issues finding her fucking seat. She just wanted to be around me to lure me into a closet rather than being by my brother’s side while he got married.

And now I can’t get rid of her longer than it takes to go to the bar for a refill.

Kind of hard to feel bad for you when you brought this on yourself.

“You know …” Brandon starts now that he’s no longer distracted by his mate and pauses for more dramatic effect than anything else. “If you wouldn’t have brought the twat waffle bimbo, you would have your girl right now. No offense, Roper.”

“None taken,” he mumbles.

“Don’t you think I know that already?” I snap. “I don’t need you telling me what your woman has probably heard from the others what I can see with my own two goddamn fucking eyes.” Slamming the beer down, I get up and walk off. To where? I don’t have a fucking clue. I just need to get away from the two noisy fuckers.

I don’t go to the bar to get another beer. Thea’s there, and I’m hoping she passes out right then and there where I don’t have to care about her getting near me or Alexa for the rest of the night.

“Hey, Miles.” Rylie stops me when I walk past her and Mason as they step off the dance floor after their first dance.
