It didn’t stop me from looking around for him every now and again when I felt the compulsion take hold of me. As the alcohol flooded my system and took control, I found myself wanting those chocolatey goodies focused solely on me, and they were until he vanished.

I’ve never felt such a profound sense of loss before, which made absolutely no sense.

I felt something missing when I couldn’t find him in the crowd. There were a lot of people in there, more than I thought. Maybe it was the liquid courage I was slamming back, but I found myself drawn to him and was hoping he would come talk to me at some point tonight.

But he never did, and now I’m sitting outside on the cool concrete of the sidewalk under my overheated ass while Rylie moans about how we’re going to get home, seeing as her mom is likely out for the night, and taxis don’t exactly reach out here.

We—and I mainly mean me—didn’t think this through very well. It’s the two of us out here while her mom remained at her house in Fetterman. There’s no way I would call her and risk us getting our asses handed to us right after moving in.

I highly doubt there’s even anUber driver out here either. So that’s out of the equation as well. Looks like I’m going to have to tell Rylie to call her mom, and we’ll suffer her sleepy wrath.

“Are you lovely ladies in need of a ride?” I nearly jump out of my skin and slam my body into the front of Rylie’s truck as a sultry voice sounds as if it’s hovering over me. “Whoa, calm down.” It chuckles.

I literally feel the vibrations of it.

I stagger to get up, cursing the alcohol for dulling my usually sharp senses. Ever since Grant, I’ve always kept them on point at all times. I don’t need someone sneaking up on me ever again.

“Are you okay?” A shock zaps me as a strong hand wraps around my forearm to help steady me before I face-plant on the hood of the truck.

“Umm … yeah?” I can’t meet what is likely a quizzical gaze. Keeping my head ducked, I look over to find Rylie talking to another man.Holy shit, what’s in the water out here?

First Miles, then the bartender, and now this guy… what the hell?

“So do you?” Blinking slowly, I finally turn to look up at the guy. I know that voice, even if it was only a quick exchange. Instead, I stare at the center of his chest. I can’t meet Miles’s face yet. It rises and falls in steady succession. I can feel the heat rolling off him. Strangely, it settles the chill within me and warms my flesh.

Hesitantly, I lift my head, taking in his corded neck, the stubble, and the grin on his handsome face until I look into his sweet eyes.

I’m hungry for more than just chocolate.

“Hi, beautiful.” My body quakes.

“Hello again.”

“I see you took me up on my drink offer.” Dear God, that grin will cause me to melt into a puddle at his feet.

“Yes,wedid.” I don’t know why I stress the fact I’m not alone. It’s clear I’m not, but my usually strong-willed best friend is otherwise distracted by tall, dark, and handsome number two.

Much like I am.

“That’s why we’re offering you two a ride home.” He’s teasing me, but I can’t find my voice to chastise him or pull myself away from his body or touch.

Travis Tritt starts up in my head about trouble, but it isn’t me who I’m thinking of. It’s this very delectable man before me, and then I’m giggling and falling into his chest. This is absolutely crazy. I must be completely shit-faced to go along with this, let alone allow him to get this close to me.

I never let guys this close.

I hear Rylie agreeing to go with the other man, her voice sounding off, but I’m too confused with what I’m going through to focus on her. The next thing I know, I’m being led away from Rylie’s truck and around the back of the building to where two motorcycles are parked, and I’m slurring, “You’s has a bike?”

“Yeah, are you okay with that?” Miles laughs while wrapping me up in his heat. I can’t argue with him especially when he produces a jacket out of nowhere and offers it to me.

I don’t fight him as I’m helped onto the back of the wide-open machine and a helmet is strapped onto my head. It maybe the alcohol, but I swear he laces every little movement with a caring tenderness.

Alexa, you’ve been alone for too long.

My dress hikes up once I’m seated properly on the bike. It inches up higher when Miles slides on. I gasp as his warm hands grab my knees and pull me until my body is flush against his back.

“It’s safer this way.” My body liquefies at the smolder he throws over his shoulder at me before turning the bike on. The rumbling doesn’t help my current state. Lust and white-hot need pulsate through me as he backs up and follows the other bike with my best friend on it.

The wind chills me as we hit the interstate, but the heated need produced for this man helps to fight it off. That doesn’t help me regain any form of composure or a sober mind. The closeness of him, the strange sensations coming to life because of him, and the rumbling of the bike under us drive me crazy with need.
