Screw him!

I had every reason to fear and despise him. His touch should have disgusted me. Yet... my entire body tingled, and my cheeks were burning.

His hot breath on my face. His lips were on my ear. His warmbodyon mine.

Something hollow and deep gnawed within me. At that time, I didn’t know it. But he had awakened something inside me; a deep need and desire, only he could satisfy.

Chapter 7 - Alexei

Nothing worked.

Nothingfucking worked.

Not Cherie, even when I'd tried so hard to concentrate on her face instead of the mental images of a certain dark-haired woman who smelled like temptation. Not whiskey or finding her damn father. I couldn’t get her out of my head. She was everywhere. Hereverythinghaunted me. Fuck!

The casino wasn’t open until seven, but that was the reason I’d come early. I needed space. Space to think. Away from her.

It had taken every fucking thread of self-control to keep me from snapping last night. Being that close to her and not being able to sink my teeth on her neck or wrap her hair around my fist...thatwas fucking torture.

I slammed my fist on the mahogany desk. “Fuck!” I ran my fingers through my hair.

The tie around my neck suddenly felt tighter, choking. I hooked a finger through and tugged it loose. My insides burned, rising fast like a fever. I opened the drawer and took out a cigar and the ‘die-hard’Zippo lighter.

The butt glowed cheery-red, and nicotine rushed through my veins. I shut my eyes and sagged into the chair.

Never compromise.Do what must be done.No sentiments attached. It wasn’t sung often but was a low-key motto. Something we all lived by. Enemies knew; the Bratva showed no mercy. There were reasons for that. But knowing this didn't change anything; Vanessa Collins was irresistible.

Fucking sexy; like an innocent vixen, who had no idea how much she upset a man’s composure. Funny how she didn’t even realize it.

Mike was the enemy, and she was his daughter. That meant nothing could happen to her. Nothingshouldhappenwithher.Burning for her meant mixing business with pleasure. It meant flushing the low-key motto down the toilet.

Not good. It could mess up an entire operation.

Unless … if she didn’t belong to anyone …

The door to my office opened quietly and I opened my eyes. Pavel entered. He closed the door behind him and walked towards my desk. I nudged the chair and blew out a cloud of thick, white smoke.

“Boss—"

“Sit.”

He drew the chair closer and knitted his fingers on the desk. The sight of it reminded me of the previous night. Our fingers interlaced. Her soft palms and body pressed beneath mine.

Fever.Burn.

I clenched my jaw and ogled the ceiling. Any distraction was welcomed. “Did you know? She tried to escape last night. Through the bathroom window. Who would have thought?”

Another puff of smoke clouded my eyes. I inhaled. Constant ticks of the wall clock at the corner of the room pricked the uncomfortable silence. Specks of dust sparkled under the light flooding through the glass windows.

“I heard. She turned out to be a smart one. What if she tries it again?”

I placed a hand on the desk. My fingers tapped lightly on the wood, and I crossed one leg atop the other. “She won’t. I made sure of that. Still, she's becoming burdensome.”Feverishly burdening.

He was quiet for a while, then, “We can take care of her if—”

“No.”

He squinted, visibly stunned at the quick response. I ignored him.
