EPILOGUE

LUCA

One month later

Time sure flies when you’re having fun.

Well, it flies when you’re up to your eyeballs with work anyway. I had been naive to think that after I had officially taken over all of my father’s dealings, the business end of things might slow down or at least level off.

I have less free time than I ever had before.

I hate that I’ve had to spend more time with Alexei than I have with Katya recently.

However, our expansions and current acquisitions are going very well indeed. At the rate that we’re going, we will be ableto move past the borders of the neighboring states and then a bit further. The sheer power that the pair of us have with our combined forces is formidable. After our common enemy was defeated, I had half expected there to be an uncomfortable period when we would be attempting to figure out the lines between Alexei and myself.

But, apart from some arguments, we seem to work fairly well together.

Who would have guessed it?

“Aren’t you supposed to be leaving?” Alexei asks as he looks up over the paperwork that he had been examining. Likely more shipping contracts and manifestos. The same thing that he and I have been poring over fordaysnow.

“I’m going.” I answer as I shift through another stack of paperwork.

“It doesn’t look like you’re leaving.” Alexei quirks a brow as he speaks. “I don’t want to be on the business end of my sister’s temper if she thinks that I’m the reason that you’re late.”

I don’t dignify that with a response at first.

“I mean it.” Alexei continues. “I’ve had to listen to her enough.”

“No doubt no more often than Nora has contacted me for keepingyoutoo late.”

Alexei smirks. “I guess we will both be in a world of trouble if we don’t get home then, huh?”

“Ironic, isn’t it?”

“What is?”

“Two very powerful men that have to go home to attend to their women.”

“Well, it’s the only thing that is worthy of being afraid of,” Alexei agrees before putting down his papers and pushing away from his desk. He goes for his coat at the same time that I go for mine. At least I can leave without feeling guilty that he’s the one here working.

Never in a million years would I have thought that I would be in a position where ItrustedAlexei Levine.

Much less that I would be rushing to head home to take his sister out on a date.

A rather important date, actually. If this doesn’t go right, everything is going to change from this date forward. It’s a hell of a risk. One that I couldn’t share with Alexei beforehand, even though it involves him too. In a big way. I’m sure it’s a bit underhanded to spring something like this on him after the fact… but until I have my answers there will be no point.

If it goes badly… if things don’t work out the way that I think that they should, then our business arrangements and everything that we’ve spent the last month working finalizing could be ruined.

My family’s future depends on this evening.

My business, the empire that I’ve inherited… all of it.

No pressure.

Dario is waiting out front for me with the car as soon as I exit.

“Cutting it a bit close, aren’t you sir?” Dario smirks.
