Cally layunder the bedclothes and tried to ignore the light piercing through the gap in the curtain.She lasted less than five minutes.She was awake.No denying it.And apparently this was her wedding day.
She reached out a hand and grabbed the phone.Hit speed dial.
‘What?’
‘Mel, I need your help.’
‘Why?What’s happened?’
‘Close the shop and come to my apartment, will you?It’s an emergency.’
‘Cally, it’s ten past six.I’m not opening the shop for another two hours.’
‘Great.Don’t open it at all.Come straight here.’
When Mel rapped on her door just over half an hour later Cally greeted her in her oldest sweats and a crumpled tee shirt.
Mel looked worried.‘What’s the problem?’
‘I’m getting married today.’
‘What?’
‘I’m pregnant.We’re getting married at half past three.’
‘You and who?’
‘Blake.’
‘Blake?’She watched Mel rack her brains.‘The auction guy?’
Cally winced.‘Yes.’
‘The incredibly hot-looking, super-wealthy, venture-capital auction guy?’
‘Yes.’
‘Married?’
‘Yes, married, all right?To the guy I bought at auction!’
Mel paused and gave her the once-over.‘Not wearing that, you’re not.’
A hysterical bubble of laughter escaped Cally.‘What’s wrong with it?’
‘Hell, Cally, you don’t leave me much time.’
‘I’m not going to a bridal shop.’
Mel wasn’t listening.‘Thank heavens you phoned me.Thank heavens I am a walking encyclopaedia on all things wedding.’
‘I’m not wearing a wedding dress.I am too short and too round.’Cally sighed.‘What’s the point?I can’t do lace and ruffles and nor can I do any slimline elegant number.I’m best off in some sort of suit.’She hadn’t thought about it much.Not at all.
Mel snorted.‘Dress to your body type darling.Now let me think for a second—I’ve seen it.The perfect frock.But which designer…’
Cally watched, fascinated.Mel seemingly had a photographic memory when it came to wedding-dress design and right now she was mentally flicking through magazine pages.
‘Got it.’she declared.
