“I want to make this right for you and tearing in there, hiding behind you as a shield, isn’t how I work. I will make a deal and then it’s up to you to decide whether you want to meet them on your terms and not because they have said so.”

“I don’t want you to go.” She says with a trembling smile, and I kiss her lips, loving how merely the touch of them on mine breathes new life into my soul.

“I won’t be long, a couple of days at the most, and I will feel a lot better if you invite your friends over to the penthouse and have fun in my absence. Not the guy, though. We still need to speak about that.” I wink and, despite the worry on her face, she laughs softly.

“You have nothing to worry about. My heart is right here.”

She presses her hand to my heart and smiles sweetly. “Just guard it well, Troy, and make it home with your sister. I still want to come, though.”

“I know.” I kiss her slowly and deeply because I want her to realize this is a fresh start for us. We have no more secrets and that is exactly how it’s going to be from now on.

However, now the most important thing in my life is to bring my sister back where she belongs, and I already realize it won’t be easy.

CHAPTER 45

LAURA

The expression on Gemma’s face makes me laugh out loud as she stares around Troy’s penthouse in jealous awe.

“You’re seriously kidding me. You lucky bitch.”

Brittany is no different and stares out of the panoramic windows and shakes her head slowly.

“Has he got a brother?” She says hopefully and I grin.

“He does. Harrison and he’s a few years younger than Troy.”

“I call him.”

Gemma says loudly and Brittany growls, “I’ll fight you for him.”

“Relax ladies, we’re all friends here.” I say smugly, reaching for the bottle of champagne that has been chilling while I wait for my friends to arrive.

“I can’t believe this has happened.” Gemma says, staring around her in shock and Brittany jumps onto the couch and says dreamily, “I knew he would be good. Man, I wish I had answered that job ad. Where was it placed again? I must register with that agency.”

I shrug. “It’s no big deal. I sucked at being a personal assistant, anyway.”

“I knew he was dirty.” Gemma says, as she joins Brittany at the other end of the couch. “I’m guessing it was after our conversation. It planted the image in his mind of doing all those dirty things to you and work was the furthest thing from his mind after that.”

“Yes.” Brittany giggles. “Please tell us he bent you over his desk. I’d die happy.”

“He did.”

I giggle as they scream in delight.

“I bet he was good.” Gemma says wistfully, and I have a warm feeling inside when I remember just how good he is.

As I hand them each a glass of champagne, I worry about Troy and hope he isn’t in any danger because of me. From the sounds of it, my relatives don’t hold family in high regard, anyway. I mean, who murders their own daughter? It’s sick.

In fact, as my friends chatter on, the noise fades into the background as I contemplate what may be happening right now. The Vieris don’t sound the type to negotiate business deals, and my thoughts turn to Adonis. Maybe he knows something that can help, so I say quickly over the chatter, “Sorry girls, I’m just heading to the bathroom.”

I laugh as they carry on their favorite subject of how to grab a billionaire of their own and head to my room, where my purse is waiting.

As I draw out the card that Adonis gave me, my heart beats so fast I’m sure Troy can hear it wherever he is.

I punch in the number, and it doesn’t take long before his husky voice fills my ear.

“Hello stranger.”
