“No, it’s cool. No need to worry.”

She pursed her lips. “Did Mr. Lyons make you uncomfortable? Caleb told me about that the other day.”

Shit. I looked away from her. “It’s fine.” I tried to walk around her and speed up.

Alana stepped in front of me. “Is he harassing you? You really need to report that.”

I stepped around her. “Look, it’s fine. I work for Caleb now. No worries.”

“I’m worried, though. This is my job. How come no one has told me about it? This could be bad for the company. Is that why Samantha left a few months ago? Is that why he got Miranda fired last year?” she said.

“Alana, drop it. He has more power than you and me combined. He used you to fire Miranda. You don’t have the power to get rid of him. You didn’t even realize this was happening till Caleb reported it.”

Her eyes widened as her mouth dropped. “What?”

“It’s true and you know it deep down,” I said. “Let’s go.”

“But I can help!” Alana protested. “No one’s reported it. I couldn’t help in the past. If there was?—”

“No, you can’t. He has connections. We are nobodies for these types of guys. Now, he will look for someone else to harass till that girl says no or whatnot,” I said.

“Would you have rolled over and suffered? How long has it been happening?” Alana asked. Worry crossed her face.

“For a few weeks or something. It’ll be fine. If he targeted me, it was better than someone else. Iamfine, obviously.”

“But no one deserves to feel unsafe at work. This is my job. I can fix it! If it comes out that I ignored things, I could be fired. It will be a scandal. Or he would have plotted with Kate to get you fired.”

“I’m shocked Kate isn’t begging to get me fired now,” I said.

Alana shook her head. “She didn’t take the transition very well,” she said, laughing lightly. “Now, she’s having to work.”

“Oh, no. She will have to actually do her job. The horror!” I said in a mocking tone.

We made it to my desk and she placed the bags on my desk. “Well, you know where I am at,” she said.

“Thanks for the help.”

I walked into Cal’s office. “Hey there,” I said. “Coffee bitch here.”

He looked up from his computer. A smile spread across his face. “Ah, perfect.”

I placed his coffee in front of him. “I left the bags out there. Let me go get them.” I turned to get the bag.

“I saw you took the necklace,” he said. He leaned back in his chair with his hands behind his head.

I stilled at the door and turned. I shrugged. “Well, it will go well with the dress. I mean, we are talking about a high class sort of restaurant. Did all the stuff come in?”

“Yeah, it’s by your desk. I just couldn’t help but notice the two shoe boxes.”

I smiled. “Good. Cause you paid extra to get it shipped here in time.”

“Well, of course I did.”

“I hope it’s good enough. It’s hard to find stuff in my size,” I said as I waved down my body. “The fancy places only have matronly items in plus-size.”

“You know, I would spoil you, if you let me,” Cal said.

I rolled my eyes and turned around. I grabbed the bags and walked back into the office. “Here are the bags. So what did you get me? I’m absolutely loving the ‘you choose what I am eating for lunch’ thing,” I said. I tried to make my words drip in sarcasm.
