Cal rolled his eyes as he started to divvy up the containers. “I got a steak salad. And I got you this seafood pasta dish. Here are some of the rolls. Enjoy.”

“Alana caught me and she said you said that Mr. Lyons was harassing me.”

Cal’s eyes darkened. “He was harassing you and you aren’t the only one.”

“I know that. But I figured if he chose me, he would leave everyone else alone.”

“Except what happens when you say no?”

I shrugged. “I don’t know. I know others got fired. I never knew why. I got Alana telling me stuff but they are lying to her. Since I don’t have many friends here, I never knew the truth. What I did know is that some girls would be terrorized and then boom. Gone.”

“I’ve asked around. You are a good employee. But Kate disparaged you at every turn. Anyone in his position would have believed him. It would have been extremely easy for him to get you fired.”

“Except you keep begging me to go out with you. Hell, we fucked in this office.”

“Are you trying to compare me to him? That guy is a pig and you know it.”

“Then, why haven’t you stopped hitting on me?”

Cal paused as he glared at me. I hit a sore spot and he knew it. He took a sip of his coffee and stopped talking to me. We continued our meal in silence after that. After I was done, I stood up.

“What time is tomorrow?”

“I’ll pick you up at five,” he said. “Do you need help taking your boxes to your car after work?”

I glanced at the boxes behind my desk. “Yeah, if you could help me, that would be great.”

He smiled. “It would be my pleasure.”

I left my desk feeling unsure about everything. It was getting exasperating. Every day was like this. As much as I wantedsomething to develop between us, wecouldn’tdo this. I didn’t want to endanger my job. Why did things have to be so complicated that I couldn’t just be with the guy that seems to like my body the way it was? He seemed amazing, even if he was only here for his dad. Maybe a bit pushy. Either he was an ass or he saw a future with me. He was handsome—and rich enough—that he could have any woman out there. My heart flipped at the thought.

Could he really?

Chapter 21

Cal

Jordan jingled her keys at her apartment door. She turned her body toward mine and leaned against her door. “You know, I could have brought those up here. You didn’t have to help me.”

I smiled at her as I shifted the boxes in my arms. “I asked you earlier, and you said yes.”

Jordan made a face and turned away. “I am not sure why I even said yes then. Maybe I wasn’t thinking clearly due to too much coffee.” She pushed the door open and stepped in. I followed her into the apartment.

“Where do you want them?” I asked.

“I guess the bedroom. Let me show you,” she said. She threw her bag on the couch and walked past it. She opened her door, and she waved her arm toward the bed.

As I passed her, I winked. “You want it on the bed?” I said. I turned toward her. Her face was red as she brushed away the hair out of her face. “I can’t wait to see what you picked out for me. Did you get anything for underneath it?”

She glared at me and crossed her arms. “No. I did not. And it’s none of your business what I am wearing underneath.”

I stepped closer to her, and Jordan tilted her head up to look into my eyes. I traced the edge of her chin with my finger. Her breath hitched as her pupils dilated. “Cal,” she whispered.

“I would love to hear you say my name with you underneath me again,” I whispered.

She sighed. “Cal, we can’t do this.”

“Would it have been different if I wasn’t with my dad’s company?”
