“You’re my boss.”

“I wasn’t always your boss. There are ways we could have dealt with that through Human Resources.”

Jordan’s eyes narrowed. “No fucking way am I telling Alana that I fucked you. And I’m guessing you ruined those things when you moved me tothisposition. I said one night. That’s what we did.”

I rolled my eyes. I didn’t think I’d ever get through to her. She wouldn’t even listen to me. But maybe I needed to listen to her? I stepped away from her and I could audibly hear her let out a sigh of relief. I sat down behind my desk. “Why were you late?”

“Kate and Jessica want to make up. So, they want me to meet up with them this weekend. For exercise class and drinks.”

I didn’t like the sound of that and frowned.

In a small voice, she said, “I only agreed to do this because of you.”

My head perked up. “What do you mean?” I didn’t want her by herself with Jessica and Kate. After just a few weeks here, I knew they wouldn’t be fair to her. This was a set up and I didn’t think Jordan realized that. Or she cared about me. My heart wanted to believe the latter.

Jordan shrugged. “I thought if I could make friends with them, it would be better for you in the long run.”

“You don’t have to do that. I wouldn’t trust them,” I said. Maybe there was hope after all.

Jordan rolled her eyes. “Of course not. It doesn’t mean that I should alienate them completely,” she argued. “Jessica has something against you. I’m trying to help.”

I pursed my lips. “I don’t need you to help me with this.”

Her hands went to her hips. “Yes, you do. The whole office thinks you’re a playboy. Half of them are mad that you won’t screw them. And the other half call you a nepo baby.”

I laughed. “Pretty sure you meant thirds there, dear.”

A flash of anger crossed Jordan’s face. “Either way, that is how the office sees you. And I know that you want to do well here. I don’t know why. You have so much more to offer than you think. Look what you’ve done with Brian. Somehow y’all have made it big with a two-man team and contractors. By the way, I’m not your dear.”

I stood up and I leaned over my desk. “What are you, Jordan? What could you be?”

Her face grew crimson as she tugged at the edges of her shirt that was wet with spilled coffee. “I’m just your assistant.”

“Who I have fucked . . . again?”

She bit the inside of her cheeks. “Like I said, I amjustyour assistant. That’s how it has to be. That is how itshouldbe.”

I sighed as I pulled back. “Fine, Jordan. Anyways, when you grab lunch, you can go home and change really quick. Although I could have someone deliver a shirt for you.”

Her head picked up. With wide eyes, she said, “Why would you do that?”

“I don’t want you to be miserable all day. There’s always delivery for anything.”

“Fine. I wear a size twenty. Good luck.” She turned and walked out of my office. A smile formed on my face. She didn’t fully realize what havoc I could wreak with my money and choosing clothes for her. This would be fun to do. Better than actual work. I smiled as I started to google clothing stores in the area. After I found the right thing, I would call and convince them to deliver theperfectgarment in the next hour.

Chapter 29

Jordan

This shirt was too fucking tight and too fucking low.Fuck Cal.I tugged it over my hips, but it barely covered my bra. It was lower cut than I would ever choose for work purposes. I groaned. He did this on purpose. He had to have done this on purpose. I thought I had a sweater at my desk. I would just wrap myself in that all day. I opened the bathroom door and tried to walk as quickly as I could to my desk. A body stepped in front of me and I stumbled into it. I looked up. It was Mr. Lyons.

“Hello there, I haven’t seen you in a few days,” he said. His eyes roamed my body. Fucking Cal, making me a perfect target. I slid my hand in my pocket and pulled out my phone. Of course, how would he have known this would betheday Mr. Lyons would seek me out?

“Yeah, they moved me to work under Caleb.”

“Aw, the nepo baby?” he sneered. His head tilted. “Under him?”

I pursed my lips as I chided myself for saying under. I rolled my eyes as I hit call on Cal’s name on my phone. “He’s actuallygot some good ideas, ya know? He could have had the job without the whole related to the CEO thing? He has a finger on the pulse of some ideas for the company.”
