Mr. Lyons rolled his eyes. “I don’t believe you. What is he paying you to say things like that?”

I pursed my lips and sucked in a deep breath. The shirt rode up some more. I tugged it down. Fucking Cal. Why am I defending him when he is doing this to me? “He’s not paying me to say those things. I watch him and listen to him.”

“Yeah, I don’t believe you,” he said. His eyes roamed down the edge of the shirt. Cal turned the corner. His eyes were full of anger.

He walked toward me, purposely shoving Mr. Lyons. “There you are. I was afraid you got lost on your way to the bathroom!” he exclaimed.

I smiled sweetly and waved at Mr. Lyons. “Mr. Lyons here wanted to chat.”

Cal turned, pretending that he had just seen Mr. Lyons. “Oh, I didn’t see you there.”

Cal towered over Mr. Lyons. “Really? You need to watch the way you speak to me,” Mr. Lyons said, a voice full of venom.

Cal smirked. “Why do you say that?”

“I’m close to your father,” he replied. “You better watch out. There are people watching you here. You’re not as welcome as you think.”

Cal shrugged. He pulled me in close. “Anyway, I have to take my assistant away. Feel free not to visit us ever. Toodles!” He dragged me back to our cave.

As soon as we got back to our area, I stomped on his foot and walked away. “You set me up!”

“What are you talking about?”

I waved frantically over my torso. “This! He was eyeballing me and probably got more of a glance at my tits than ever before!”

Cal pursed his lips as he rubbed his forehead. “You weren’t supposed to run into him. Most of the time, we rarely see anyone back here. You were supposed to come back to me. What’s wrong with this shirt, though?”

“It’s too tight, and it’s too low cut! It’s barely appropriate for the office.” I turned on my heels and tried to look for my emergency sweater. I looked in my spare drawer and it was gone.

“What? Where is my sweater?” I asked. I stood up and Cal was grinning like a maniac. He walked toward his office. After a few moments, he walked back out.

“Are you looking for this?” he said. He waved a red sweater from his fingers.

I lunged for the sweater, and he yanked it above his head. “Give it back! You planned this!”

“Of course I planned this.”

“This is not appropriate at all! Please give it back to me!” I begged.

His other hand reached out and touched my chin. He tilted my head up as he looked into my eyes. “I love to hear you beg.”

I stilled and swallowed. “Can I please have my sweater back?”

“That is how a good girl asks for things,” he said. He dropped my sweater on my head and turned back into his office. Stupid man. Or maybe stupid me, because he made my heart flutter every time he looked at me.

Chapter 30

Cal

According to the small list I was provided by Flora, this woman, Bianca, was fired for refusing Mr. Lyons' advances over a year ago. I knocked on the door and a woman with bags under her eyes and a baby on her hip answered. . "What do you want?" she asked. Her eyes flicked down my outfit. "You're too nice looking to belong here."

"I’m investigating something at Duncan Associates.”

Bianca’s eyes narrowed. "I was fired from there."

"Can I come in and talk to you about it?"

She rolled her eyes and turned around. She walked to her couch as she started to pick toys off of it. "Come in."
