“I didn’t doubt you, but why would anyone take your phone?”

My hands waved toward the other sides of the office. “I don’t know? Everyone here?”

His hand rubbed his chin as he looked at my desk. “I didn’t see anybody come here, but I was busy with work.”

“The one time it would have been better for you to be screwing around,” I mumbled.

“The only way this backfires is if someone actually knows your code and connects Cal with me.”

I laid my forehead on the desk as I squeezed my eyes shut. Don’t cry at work. Don’t cry at work. The tears were fighting their way to the front. I swallowed. “It’s not as simple as that. Why’d they takethatphone? If it was the other phone, theycouldn’t have unlocked it, thanks to Brian’s magic. This isn’t fair at all. This has to be a setup.”

His hand gently touched my shoulder. I shrugged it off. “Don’t touch me out here.”

“Maybe—”

My body shot up. “You can’t keep saying it’s an accident, Cal! This area of the office is a joke. It’s the oldest part of the office. No one just wanders this way. This is the dungeon for a reason. This was intentional. Stop putting your head in the sand.”

“Okay, let’s shut off your phone.”

“The texts are on there. No service doesn’t change that if someone is in the office right now seeing my sexts from you. Someone had a feeling I was doing something bad. Maybe that’s not what they thought they would find, but they have the goldmine. I could get fired for this.”

“I wouldn’t let that happen to you.”

“You aren’t the biggest boss around, Cal. Sometimes you cannot push your way out of things.”

“It won’t come to that.”

“You say that, but I don’t think you get what it’s like for me. Leave me alone. I’ve got to go to work.”

“Go take a walk.”

I rolled my eyes as I threw my body back. “Oh, yeah, I am going to go around with a magnifying glass and Nancy Drew my way out of this. Leave me. You have work to do, too.”

Cal frowned, turned to his office, and the door clicked behind him. The tears that had been threatening to fall finally fell. I had a job for the time being, but I didn’t know for how much longer.

Chapter 45

Cal

There was a group of people in front of the office doors. I pushed through when a woman screamed, “Hey, what do you think about the allegations of sexual harassment?”

I paused in my tracks as I turned toward the woman. Did Jordan’s worse fear happen? More people were shouting as another one said, “That’s Caleb Duncan! It’s the CEO’s son!”

Another hand grabbed me as they pulled through the crowd. My attention shifted to the person, and I realized it was Alana. “No comment! No comment!” She screamed into the crowd. As we passed through the glass doors of the office, she sighed.

“Everything is so baffling!” Alana whispered as she walked into the foyer.

Everyone around the office rushed around. Bodies hurried to their offices, away from the media outside. Something had happened, but what?

“What happened?” I asked.

Alana looked panicked as she tried to explain. “Someone posted about sexual harassment in the office.” She bit her lip asshe looked around real quick. “You’ve got to come to your dad’s office right away.”

“What about Jordan?” I asked. I looked around to find her.

“She’s not needed in this meeting. Anyway, I got emails after that of many people saying they experienced the same thing. I haven’t told your dad about that. That’s why we’re going to the meeting now.”

“Who is it about?” Worry that it was about me. I glanced toward the direction of my office where Jordan would be.
