Jacob appeared, his phone already at his ear. “Logan!” he yelled, then, “Yes, we need an ambulance. Anaphylactic shock. Shellfish allergy.”
Part of him relaxed, knowing his brother knew what to do. He felt the prick of his EpiPen in his thigh, then his body was lifted.
Blake was carried through the crowd by two large men, likely Jacob and Logan, as his heart began to pound and his body shook from the effects of the adrenaline.
But it would save his life.
Then he heard the siren and the rest was a blur.
CHAPTER TWELVE
Bella stood in thehospital waiting room with Blake's Gucci jacket wrapped around her. She’d picked it up off the ground when Logan ripped it off him.
It smelled like Blake. Slightly musky. Hints of whisky. Powerful. Strong.
They were two different things in her mind. One was due to his wealth, family, and social standing. The other a confidence in who he was and what he wanted.
And with the knowledge he would get it.
Blake wasn’t going to give up on her tonight. She had a feeling she was just about to break when he ate the shellfish.
Bella hadn’t liked the assumptions he was making that her family was pawning her off for financial reasons, but she understood how he would come to that conclusion.
What she was doing was unusual.
Yet perhaps it was just as immoral. Finding a husband-slash-business partner so she could secure her fortune.
A huge fortune.
Yet it wasn’t about the money. It was about returning Kennedy Enterprises to its rightful owner. Yes, Randall had some rights as Tina’s husband, but not complete ownership.
And if Bella had her way, he would lose all rights after the way he had hurt her mother.
Right now, none of that seemed to matter. She’d jumped into the limo with Jacob and a woman she didn’t know, needing to know Blake was going to be okay. After all, she didn’t have his phone number or any way of contacting him.
“Interesting.” Jacob had smirked, then the smile had vanished as his phone began to ring. “Mom. It’s okay. We are following the ambulance. Logan is with him.”
