You thought I was your uncle.

But, Abigail, I’m your dad.

I wanted to tell you so many times but couldn’t risk it.

Undertaker swore vengeance. I knew one day he would try to kill any children I had.

Crow is strong. I’ve helped him become the man who can protect you. He’s the right president for the club and your big brother.

Trust him. Please.

And try to forgive me for my sins.

I will always love you. You’re my baby girl.

Keep singing, nightingale.

“Oh, shit,” I blubbered. “Austin.”

“I know,” he answered, hugging me against his side. “He’s right, you know. I won’t let anything happen to you.”

“What did he do to Undertaker?”

“Rook says it was an accident. He didn’t see Undertaker’s son until it was too late. He’s sorry he died.”

“Oh, God.”

“Undertaker wants us all dead because of a single mistake.”

“Austin?”

“Yeah?”

“Did you see how Rook signed my letter at the end?”

“No.”

“Look.” I lifted it in front of his face.

“Aw, fuck,” he exhaled. “Damn.”

“Right?” I didn’t notice the tears streaking down my cheeks until my brother sniffled.

“It’s so good you’re here now. I didn’t,” he faltered, “I didn’t know how much we needed one another.”

“But we do.”

“Yeah. I’m so fucking glad you’re here, Gail.”

“Our dad knew he had to bring us together.”

“I wish it had been sooner, but we can’t change that.”

No, and that was okay. We were making up for it now.

I lifted the other piece of paper and flashed the light on it. “Oh, wow.”

“Shit. What?”
