“We seem to be forgetting something.Aurora goes into a trance when she sees memories.Wouldn’t it be suspicious if she, a member of a pack affiliated with the Supernatural Council, goes into a trance close to Alpha Juan?”Levi had a very valid point.

“Are you sure you’re not overthinking this?Very few people know Aurora is Keane’s daughter and no one would ever imagine that Alpha Reece’s daughter could see a person’s thoughts or memories through touch.Besides, there is somewhere Aurora and Alpha Juan have to be at the same time—the daily Alphas Forum.Timothy will walk right past you guys and Caden is going to follow behind Aurora, so if she can’t get out of Alpha Juan’s memories, he’ll be able to pull her away without alerting Alpha Juan.”Alpha Owen suggested.

“Okay, I think that would work.Let’s go with Owen’s plan.”Alpha Timothy said.

After ironing out a few kinks in the plan, Rebecca ended the meeting with a summary of our plans.“So this is how it will work. The Alphas Forum starts at 9am.Aurora is going to wait at the door beforehand so that she can walk into the hall a few seconds after Alpha Juan.Caden will text a T on the server, which is a cue for Alpha Timothy to walk into the hall after you guys.Aurora, who is following Alpha Juan, will wait to see Alpha Timothy walk in before standing behind Alpha Juan.Alpha Timothy will make a call at that moment so Alpha Juan will look his way and that’s when Aurora will find a way to touch him.Aurora, your job is to get into his memories quickly and get out quickly, understood?”

“Got it.”I agreed.

Aurora

To pass the time, I was speaking to Aiden and Caden about the arrangements I made with some of my Crawford University professors before I left for Ni Daonni City and the Alphas Congress when Alpha Juan walked past us into the hall for the Alphas Forum meeting.

“Aurora, let’s go in.The Alphas Forum will start soon.Aiden, we’ll see you later.”Caden pretended to interrupt me before lowering his head to text the cue for Alpha Timothy onto the server.

I squeezed Aiden’s hand for reassurance because I was nervous that our plan would fall through. In return, he smiled at me and patted my hand. Then I released his hand as Caden and I walked into the hall, maneuvering around the Alpha that walked into the hall after Alpha Juan.

As planned, I walked as close behind Alpha Juan as I could without looking suspicious while looking down at a brochure I’d brought with me.Thankfully, before he got to the row of seats that held his seat, Alpha Timothy walked into the hall, talking on the phone.

“He did what?”Alpha Timothy’s voice and exasperation were so real that I couldn’t help feeling like becoming an Alpha was a waste of his talents when he should have been an actor instead.“Okay, okay, check the Pack Observer Law and make sure he has any right to do that.”

I stepped on my untied shoelaces intentionally, tripped, and stumbled into Alpha Juan, who had slowed down to listen to Alpha Timothy’s phone call.As if I was trying to avoid falling on my face, I grabbed Alpha Juan’s arm.

Because he’d been listening to Alpha Timothy’s phone call with his Beta about his pack observer when I touched him, Alpha Juan’s surface-level thoughts were the exact flash of memories I needed.

The first memory was of a beautiful dark-skinned woman with pained gray eyes whom Alpha Juan was fascinated by.The second memory was of the woman looking down at him as he bowed his head to kiss the back of her hand. His thoughts at that moment were that if she didn’t belong to such a difficult organization, he would take her as his mistress.

After that memory flashed away, the next memory was of Alpha Juan speaking to a hooded, masked man, who was also the ‘handler’ of the witch, through the mirror in his hotel room. The hooded man shared some details about how he planned to interview Alpha Timothy while reading his mind to determine whether he had bad intentions.

If Alpha Timothy had bad intentions, they would wipe his memories with the Fae Realm’s Lubrane flower, which had three puffs of smoke to defend itself against attackers before it withered forever. If Alpha Timothy needed the witches’ help, he would have to pay an extra 300,000 dollars to the handler. After getting a rundown of how he was to send Alpha Timothy to their meeting place, the mirror went blank, leaving Alpha Juan staring at himself in the mirror.

With these few memories, I realized that we had missed one thing.Based on how the hooded man talked about the witch, it was likely that he was the one who decided whether she compelled people or not.Alpha Juan also referred to the hooded man as the witch’s ‘handler’ and he’d thought of the organization they both belonged to, which meant that there was a powerful organization behind all of this as well.

Refusing to think of the implications of this right now, I broke free of Alpha Juan’s memories.Thankfully, Caden was holding my waist and supporting me or I would have fallen to the floor face down in a hall containing several Alphas and future Alphas.

Caden apologized as he helped me stand stably.“I’m so sorry, Alpha Juan.Aurora doesn’t like touch, so when she touches unknown people, she just freezes.”

“Oh, is that why she wears gloves everywhere?”Alpha Juan asked, eyeing me curiously.

I bowed to apologize.“I’m sorry for touching you without your permission, Alpha Juan.”

“No problem, no problem.”Alpha Juan said before pausing theatrically, as if a thought had just occurred to him.

Then, with schadenfreude in his voice, he asked, “But I heard you were your father’s heir and the future Alpha of the Woodburn Pack? How are you going to cope as an Alpha if you can’t even shake the hands of fellow Alphas?Women are so delicate. This is why I told your father he needed to find another heir.Who the hell would want an alliance with a female Alpha?”

Before I could say anything, he made two tsking sounds.“Tsk, tsk ...Instead of considering my opinion, he got angry and stopped speaking to me.It doesn’t matter though. It would seem you’re just as delicate as your father.”

I took a deep breath and released it to prevent myself from getting riled up by Alpha Juan’s words. The word had already spread about how antagonistic and sarcastic he could be, so hearing him speak so rudely to me wasn’t surprising.

I answered him in a saccharine sweet tone, “Oh, there’s no need to worry about me, Alpha Juan.Gloves are all I need to shake hands with the non-misogynist Alphas that my pack will only ally with.”

Before I could turn to walk away, Caden held my arm and pulled me toward him until our arms were clasped together.“And the Crawford Pack doesn’t discriminate on packs based on the gender of their Alphas. As Aurora is my mate, I’m sure she’ll be fine.”

Caden and Alpha Juan had a short stare-down, which Alpha Juan was the first to look away from before he walked away with a sneer.
