“Zander doesn’t usually travel.” She captured my hand and squeezed it. “He’s rarely on the front lines with Raf, Bash, and the rest of the team.”

I let out a long breath, nodding.

She was right; Zander didn’t travel with them.

I wouldn’t be moving constantly with him, or worrying constantly about him. We would be okay, after Evan was dealt with.

Soon enough, the guys joined us in the living room. Zander handed me my phone—which I hoped to never see again after that day.

He would buy me a new one. With a new number, and a case that made it look like a completely different device.

“You want me to tell him I’m scared, and that he won?” I asked, my voice a little steadier than it had been.

Only a little, but I’d take a little.

“And you want him to meet you at the nightclub,” Zander confirmed. “You’ll have to tell him we’re coming after him, to make him trust you. Tell him you’ll meet him there.”

“Alright.” I could handle that.

Iwouldhandle it.

“There’s a good chance it won’t work, Miles. He might not buy it. He’s a young vampire, but he’s not stupid. He knows mates have to drink from each other to survive. His response will tell us whether he’s still sane or not, which is what we need to know.”

I hit the button to call the last phone number I had for him, lifted it to my ear, and waited.

He didn’t make me wait long.

“Hello, Sweetheart.” Evan’s purr made me shudder. He used Zander’s nickname for me, and the fury in my mate’s eyes told me he didn’t appreciate that in the slightest.

The words spilled from my mouth rapidly. “I don’t have much time—Zander will be looking for me soon. You win. I’m done hiding from you, and I have to get away from the Villins. They’re planning on coming after you at the nightclub tonight; I’ll convince them to bring me with them. Meet me there.”

“You’re a Villin too, now. What guarantee do I have that this isn’t a trap?” he drawled.

“I’m terrified, Evan,” I hissed. “I’m risking my life. I haven’t stopped shaking since you sent that last message. Please don’tkill me—we were good together. You know it’s true. We can be good together again.” I was grasping for straws, and I knew it.

He laughed humorlessly. “Oh, Miley, I think we both know it’s far too late for that.”

Evan ended the call.

I bit my lip as Zander took my phone back. “I’m sorry. I tried.”

“That was perfect.” He lifted my hand to his lips and kissed my knuckles lightly. “Now we know what we’re dealing with. Thank you.”

“You heard the music in the background?” Rafael asked Bash, who nodded.

“He’s there now, in Charlie’s office. The footage is accurate.”

“How many vampires are with him?” Tatum asked.

“Hard to say. We don’t know how many of his are in the crowd, and in the booths,” Rafael said.

“We’ll handle them just fine,” Zander added, leaning in to kiss me lightly before he stood. “We’ll be back soon. Leave the door locked.”

“It’s more than a mile away. The psychosis will set in,” I warned.

“It won’t take long. We’re going in with backup. We both know how to deal with insanity, too.” He winked at me.

Over a few minutes, he set up the nightclub’s and house’s security camera feed on the massive TV. He had programmed them to follow certain people—Evan, and the Villins.
