He scowled at me.

“Hey, Miles,” Evan’s voice came through the phone, and I groaned softly, slouching against my seat in defeat. I really hadn’t fought that hard, but I also hadn’t slept, so the exhaustion was pretty strong.

“This is Alexander Villin, Miley’s mate. Message her again, and I will make your life a living hell. Understand?”

There was silence on Evan’s end of the call, before it disconnected.

“He’s not going to be swayed that easily,” I said flatly. “I’ve tried threats.”

“You’re not a Villin yet.” He reached over to the table he’d left his box of candy on, and pulled out a chocolate. I watched him bite into it, and my mouth watered just a little.

Notbecause of the candy.

Dammit, my body needed to get with the program. I was off sex, and men.

“He’s going to get worse with you threatening him, not better.”

“Then he’ll give me enough evidence to kill him.” Zander finished off the chocolate in one more bite, and licked a streak of it off his finger.

I needed to get out of there before I did something ridiculous, like asking him to lick chocolate offme.

Standing swiftly, I said, “I have somewhere to be. Thanks for meeting me, I guess.”

He grinned. It was way too heart-stopping. “You’re welcome, I guess.”

I nodded, striding back into the kitchen and heading straight for my purse. My heart pounded rapidly in my chest, but I ignored it.

If I got out of there, I would have time to process.

Of course, as soon as I stepped out of the shop’s back door, I realized Zander was right behind me. The smell of coffee dissipated for the most part when the door shut, and I missed it immediately.

“You forgot your phone and notes, Sweetheart.”

I spun to face him, and my nostrils flared.

My knees knocked together, and I grabbed his arm for support.

The scent…

Shit.

It was the best thing I had ever smelled.

My eyes closed, and my head tipped back. My mouth watered, and my fangs descended on instinct.

It was Zander.

Hewas the smell.

The scent was his blood.

“You okay?” His words snapped me out of it.

Or at least sort of snapped me out of it.

“Hmm? Oh. Yeah. Fine.” I stumbled over the words.

He didn’t look like he believed me.
