“Stop it,” she snarls out smacking Chance’s hand away from grabbing another slice. Even though our friends ordered the food, we are very protective of it.

“Old man Weathers let off a huge one in class,” Joss states talking about her morning English Comp class.

“Gross. God, I hated taking that class with him,” Eden whines, empathetically, letting us all feel her pain. I just laugh.

I wonder if it’ll ever stop. I glance around the room noticing all the students, some of the cafeteria workers and even people just passing by, watching. Staring hard trying to spot something else that no one else has been able to accomplish yet. To figure out the puzzle that I guess is me.

Even the guards are conversing back and forth doing the head nod toward our table, not my guards. Ours are professionally well-kept and ready for any danger. It’s the other students’ men that are joining in all the fun.

“Ignore them,” Eden growls around a mouthful of pizza as Ace, the guard that’s closest to me lets out a, “Mhm,” in agreement.

I zone everyone out, listening to my friends as we go back to talking and laughing. It doesn’t last more than five minutes before the chairs around our table are loudly yanked out as plates of food are set down.

Cal, Dean, Gavin, Sparrow, Mia and Harper, plus a couple of others with Logan that I don’t know the names of are the ones that have invaded our privacy.

Cal, as usual, makes sure to sit right across from me and starts eating, not daring to touch any of my items or me. Being in the mafia, he knows what would happen to him the instant he does. Even if his name is on the fucking building.

“Wow, how things have changed.” Eden shocks everybody by spitting this out. My nice friend is loving this new turn of events, seeing others squirm, that rightfully deserve it.

They continue to eat before Cal finally gets to the reason he’s bothering us. “The last thing that the Santorins,” I like how he includes all family members, “are going to do, is to make sure that we finally end ‘The fucking Ghost.’ You might have money now but you’re always going to be a fucking charity case.” He talks longer, blah, blah, blah. I zone them out. It doesn’t take long until Eden starts firing back. Those two bicker back and forth for at least five minutes.

My head is still slightly down, taking in my surroundings. Noticing that half of the people gave up and continued back with their conversations and eating lunch.

My eyes stop on a very familiar set of green ones. As I spot the man from before that killed the governor’s kid and his friend across the room. I get Eden’s attention and slightly nod in that direction, hopefully only when she’s looking.

The football players that are sitting around us don’t see it but the popular bitches do as they stare across the cafeteria at the hot guys. The three girls are quiet as they take in every inch and delicious curve of these men. If they only knew who they were, and what they could do to them. Their focus would be elsewhere, maybe on eating real food.

I hear shuffling over by the door, it’s sporadic and panicked as my gaze drops from the men across the room toward the front door, which isn’t very far from them. Several guards are pacing back and forth with their hand up to their ear. I’m not an idiot, they’re listening to someone on their comms.

My attention closes in on the guards around me, who are all wearing frowns or looks of dread with their hand up to their ear.

Panic and fear start to fill every pore and cell in me as I start to shake.

Something’s wrong.

The guards start frantically closing in, my breath hitches as they make a tight circle around the whole table. Cal and all of his followers start to look wary. Ace nudges the back of his chair, Cal knows exactly what he’s supposed to do but for some reason, even in danger, when something’s going on, he still has to be an ass.

“Up,” Ace snarls out as he grabs Cal’s leather jacket and yanks him out of the chair, the others quickly follow.

Cal starts to get agitated, wanting to get in the man’s face, but he backs off when he notices he’s armed, gun is out. Not armed against him as he looks around wondering the exact same thing as the rest of us. “What the fuck is going on?”

“Let’s go,” he snaps to all of his followers as they grab all their shit and head back to the other side of the room.

They found a table, not very far away. Here they can take in everything and still be at a safe distance.

I’m enamored with them as I watch Cal spit orders toward what must be his guards on the edge of the wall. His men move in and surround him, ignoring his friends. The smart friends have moved away to a safer area, not wanting to be aroundall the big players. His close friends, though, they’re the idiots. Gavin, Dean, Sparrow and Mia decide to stick around him. Trusting their safety in the small number of guards.

My friends and I are still sitting, not exactly sure what the fuck we’re supposed to do. Should we jump up and run out? I imagine Ace would’ve told us that. Eden and I share a glance, wondering what the hell is going on, at the same time that the cafeteria doors burst open.

The noticeable stomping of the guards’ boots have all attention snapping in that direction. There have to be at least twenty to thirty men that just busted in wearing all black. Black pants, black sweaters, black combat boots. I can see the unmistakable outline of a gun holstered at their sides, some of them have it under their arm. All of them have a white, almost translucent, comms wire that disappears underneath their sweaters.

The guards frantically keep searching, looking back and forth until they land on our table.
