“I’m sure. Can you take me to Bree’s?”

“Sure thing,” he says, taking my outstretched hand and popping us into Breanne and Matt’s office at the academy. Breanne is pacing back and forth, muttering obscenities while Matt sits at his desk, smirking at his mate.

“Don’t give her options about whether or not she can come home,” Breanne begins, jutting out her finger at Sebastyn.

“It’s okay, Bree. I would never leave you,” I placate her, walking up and wrapping my arms around her shoulders. She hugs me back fiercely. I wink at Sebastyn, who takes the opportunity to vanish. Smart man. I wouldn’t want to be on Breanne’s bad side either.

“Now tell us about this dilemma. All I got from Bree was that you think you met your mate and he’s in trouble,” Matt interrupts our hug, getting right down to business. It’s one of the things I love about him and what makes the two of them work so well. Breanne is action first, questions later; Matt likes to have a solid plan in place.

“I’m not sure where to begin,” I admit, but then it just starts flowing out of me. I start with the pull to the island, watching him each day, then how I felt the tug inside me dull and pull me somewhere else. If I look at the map of where our island is floating now, Canada is exactly where I’m being pulled to.

As soon as I mention the Daughters of Eris, Matt sucks in a breath.

“What?” I stop my tale, knowing I have reached the crucial part. “What do you know?”

“The Daughters of Eris are a coven located a few hours north of Parry Sound—at least that’s where we think they are. No one I know has ever actually met any of them, but they were near enough for us to hear whispers.”

“Whispers about what?”

“Evil.” He doesn’t say anything else. Just that one word and goosebumps pebble my skin. “We need Skarlyt.”

He stands up and heads over to his phone, leaving me with Breanne.

“Have you heard of these people?”

She shakes her head. “Nope. I was with the Hunters for a very long time, and all their news was old news.”

I nod, not needing her to explain any further. She was taken by hunters as a child and spent years in their clutches.

“They are just witches, right?” I ask. “What does he mean by evil?”

“Just that,” Skarlyt jumps into the conversation the moment she enters the room. “Those women and the Sons of Ares are the worst sort of magical beings you’ve ever met.”

“If they’re so evil, wouldn’t they be mages?” Bree asks.

Skarlyt nods. “Yes, that’s what I would call them. They pray to Ares and Eris. Even though the names suggest they are two separate covens, they are not. Why are we talking about them?”

Both Matt and Breanne look over at me expectantly.

“Because I think I met my mate, and I think he’s being held captive by them.”

“Your mate is a witch?” Skar asks, her blue eyes sparkling with excitement.

I shake my head. “I think he’s an owl shifter.”

Her brows furrow in response.

“What’s an owl shifter doing with the Daughters of Eris?” Skarlyt’s mind catches up with her excitement for me. “What is yourmatedoing with the Daughters of Eris?”

“I asked that question too,” Matt pipes in.

For the second time in an hour, I launch into the tale of how I met Loukas—or saw him—and what I overheard from his mother and sister.

“If they have him there and this woman—who I can only assume is the high priestess—killed his father, I’d say what you heard isn’t even the half of it.”

“What do you mean?” I ask.

Skarlyt sighs, looking scared for the first time since I met her.
