“You might be surprised,” she says, turning back to the group.

It’s a good thing that I made multiple batches of the pancakes because, despite Andres saying they had already eaten, both he and Skarlyt couldn’t help themselves before leaving.

“So, what’s on the agenda for today?” I ask Pearl, walking into the kitchen and wrapping my arms around her middle.

“I need to get ready to leave for Greece.”

“You meanwehave to get ready to leave for Greece,” I supply.

She looks up at me, her aquamarine eyes shining with something I can’t decipher.

“No. I don’t.”

“But…” I go to protest.

She puts her finger on my lips. “You guys just got here. The kids need to meet friends and take a tour of the school. Your entire parliament recognized you as their alpha last night. You have a lot to do here.”

“What if something happens to you?”

She places both her hands on my face.

“Nothing will happen to me. I have a lot of people coming with me.”

“And one more wouldn’t hurt,” I tell her, pulling her close and placing a kiss on her lips.

“The kids need you here,” she says, pulling back.

As much as I want to argue with her, I know she’s right. She knows I know. I let out a heavy sigh. “As long as I can help with the planning.”

“I don’t see how that’s going to be an issue,” she says with a smile, merging her lips with mine.

“Are we going to see the school, Daddy?” Amelia interrupts before the kiss can get too hot and heavy.

“We are, Pumpkin. Why don’t you and Zach get ready? Pearl has to go to the academy anyway.”

With that, both Zach and Amelia rush off while Pearl and I head into the bedroom, getting ready ourselves.

Chapter Eighteen

Pearl

Ihated having to convince Loukas not to come with me, I don’t want to leave him here as much as he doesn’t want me to go without him. But we both know that Amelia and Zach need to come first and him coming with me, rushing headfirst into danger, is not what’s best for them.

“Are you sure I shouldn’t come? What if I am the lookout?” he asks, his voice full of concern.

I take his face between my hands and place a soft kiss on his lips. “We both know you won’t be able to sit out if there’s a chance I could get hurt.”

A growl rumbles in his throat. “You’re not allowed to get hurt.”

I raise my brow at his choice of words. “I know we don’t know each other all that well, but I expected you to know that you cannot tell me if I’mallowedto do anything.”

He lets out a sigh. “You’re right. That was a poor choice of wording.” He pulls me into his chest, and I go willingly, melting into him as he wraps his arms around me. “I just can’t stand the thought of you being hurt and me not being there.”

“I know,” I whisper, soaking in his warmth, not wanting to leave him either. “I won’t be alone. Besides, they’re just humans, what can they do against the team we’ve assembled?”

“You’re right. I know you are, and up here,” He points to his head. “Is on board with the plan. But here,” He pulls my hand with his, covering his heart. “Is not ready to leave your side.”

“I’ll always come back to you,” I whisper, going up on my tip toes and merging my mouth with his. What was meant to be a sweet kiss turns heated in an instant as he slips his tongue into my mouth. I bring my hands up, running them through his thick hair, tugging it, and pulling him closer to me.
