“You fainted.” I giggled. “Probably not what you thought would happen the first time you got Danny naked.”

“Did he really turn into a…”

“Wolf?” I finished for him when his voice trailed off. “Uh, yeah. So Danny can shift into a wolf. Sebastian, and his cousin Toby, are vampires.”

Riley groaned, pressing the heels of his hands to his eyes. “Did I hit my head and wake up in a PNR novel?”

“Sadly not,” I patted his shoulder sympathetically. “Was I wrong to tell you? You know how I feel about lying.”

“No, it’s fine.” Riley sat up gingerly. “Wait, you’re human though, right?”

“Yes, don’t worry, I don’t turn into a big bad wolf.”

He cracked a grin. “Nah, can’t see you being anything scarier than a rabbit, to be honest.”

“Valid. But no, I’m just me. Leo, Oscar, Bailey, and Lucky are human too.”

Riley’s face paled. “Can’t believe I’m asking this, but what are the others?”

“Well, River and Blaise are mages.” Riley’s brows furrowed so I hurried into an explanation. “They can control elements. River has power over water, and Blaise over fire. Then all the others…well, they’re demons.”

Riley gaped at me. “Like, live in Hell demons? Cloven hooves? Wings? Red scaly skin?”

“Actually, the only part that’s right is the wings,” Ferry said as he entered holding a glass of water. He smiled kindly as he offered it to Riley. “Here. Toby said to take small sips of this.”

Riley took the glass, eyeing Ferry warily. “So you’re a demon?”

Ferry inclined his head. “I am.”

“He’s being modest,” Danny drawled, popping up behind him. He was dressed again, though presumably commando given his underwear lay in scraps on the floor. “Ferry here is the Grim Reaper.”

“Was,” Ferry said from between gritted teeth. “Was the Grim Reaper.”

Riley paled. “I think I feel faint again.”

“Sip the water!” Toby’s voice barked out from the kitchen. “Danny, distract the poor boy, for fuck’s sake.”

“I got this,” Danny said, patting my arm. “Go enjoy your party.”

I bit my lip, looking at Riley, who was studying Danny with interest. “Riley?”

“I’m fine,” he replied quickly, a small smirk dancing on his lips. “Go find Sebastian. I wanna ask Danny if he has a monster peen.”

Yep, that was a conversation I didn’t want to be part of.

With Riley now up and talking, people began to filter back into the living room. I fell into conversation after conversation, everyone wanting to talk to the birthday boy.

The whole time, I felt Sebastian watching me from the doorway. If it hadn’t been for the bond, I might’ve been concerned. I might’ve worried that he was feeling lonely or excluded.

But the bond reassured me that wasn’t the case. Sebastian was content. Perfectly happy watching from the sidelines, basking in the knowledge that I was enjoying myself with my friends and family.

Still, I didn’t let him stay there all night. When Lucky and Harlow got distracted by the karaoke machine, I ran over and threw myself into his arms.

“Thank you,” I whispered in his ear. “I still can’t believe you did all this for me.”

He kissed my mating mark, making me shiver. “You deserve everything and then some, sunshine. I’m never going to stop trying to make you smile.”

I kissed him. “That’s good, because I’m never going to stop smiling around you. You make me so happy you’ll get sick of it eventually.”
