It was the most beautiful thing I’d ever seen.

His smile stayed as he spoke quietly.

“Close your eyes for me, sunshine.”

Chapter 15

Sebastian

Matty squeezed his eyes shut, and I inhaled deeply.

If it hadn’t been for the gun, this would have been over already. The instant I’d seen my sunshine on his knees, battered and bleeding, barely clothed, I’d been ready to tear them all apart.

But that gun. That fucking gun. Matty wasn’t mated to a supe. He wasn’t marked by a demon.

If that trigger was pulled, my sunshine would be lost forever.

No matter. I was close enough now.

My fingers were around the wrist holding the weapon in less than a second. I snapped Isaac’s wrist upwards and the gun went off reflexively.

Snarls erupted from behind me. I paid no attention, trusting Danny to have my back.

I didn’t give Isaac a chance to shift. Bessie was in and out of his throat in a heartbeat, his big body crashing to the floor. I didn’t bite him though. I didn’t want to kill him permanently.

Not yet, anyway.

Matty gave a startled yelp at the sound of the gun, his head shooting up.

I scanned the room quickly, my throat constricting at the scene Matty was no doubt taking in. To me, it was pretty standard.

To Matty though? It had to be the stuff of nightmares.

All the wolves had shifted, Danny included. It was difficult to make out Danny’s wolf under the sheer number trying to rip him apart. Fur and blood were flying. Yelps and screams filling the air.

Shit.

Bending down, I carefully scooped Matty into my arms. He was trembling like a leaf, covered in blood, sweat, and vomit. I couldn’t take him from the room. I wouldn’t risk him being out of my sight.

Not again.

“Eyes closed, sunshine,” I said firmly, skirting around the pile of fighting wolves. The room really wasn’t big enough for this many shifters. I needed to get Matty out of harm’s way.

A wolf detached himself, clearly thinking I’d be an easy target while holding Matty.

Bessie found her home in his eye before he made it within three feet of us.

There was a bench against the wall. Trying hard not to jostle him, I placed him gently on it. I wanted so badly to tend to his wounds right away. To cuddle him close and wipe away his tears.

To make him smile again.

But there was no time. As much as I hated to admit it, Danny was doing a superb job considering he was fighting eight fully shifted wolves.

He couldn’t do it all alone though. It’d take far too long.

“Eyes closed, sunshine,” I reminded him, stroking my thumb over his jaw just once. “I’m going to have you out of here in just a minute. Okay?”

“Wait.” His cold fingers grabbed my wrist. I snarled when his big brown eyes met mine. “Don’t get hurt. Please.”
