“Don’t you see? She’s said her goodbyes, she’s not coming back… ever!”

“What do you mean?” I butt in.

“I mean, whatever she’s doing, she doesn’t intend to make it out alive. She’s gone, and she’s not coming back. She said her goodbyes to us before she burnt everything. When she set the fires, what was left of Ray went up in smoke with it; there was only Reaper left, but there was something else creeping in, trying to take hold, something not natural, something dark. She’s letting it in, and soon, there won’t even be any Reaper left. She’s gonna burn the world to the ground, and she’s gonna destroy herself achieving it. You lost. You handed her the torch. She’s gone. It’s too late.”

I step forward. “Demi! What did she say exactly?”

“What she said was for the people she trusts, the people who didn’t let her down. What she said is irrelevant to anyone else. If she wanted to say it to you, she would have. Now, what do you want? I’m just heading to the coffee shop.”

I tell her what we need, and she leaves us to it so she doesn’t have to look at us for a minute longer than she has to, apparently. She tells Steel she loves him and she always will, but right now, she just needs to mourn the loss of her sister.

“You okay?”

He just shakes his head. “Let's get this over with. We need to find her before she does all the stupid things. Fuck… if she makes it out alive, I’m gonna fucking kill her.”

We check all the lodges and get just as friendly a welcome at Skye’s. However, we only find bugs and cameras in Ares’s and my lodge. We head to the barn and the gym, where we find more bugs and cameras, before heading back to the tech room.

Ares joins us as we’re scrolling through the footage leading up to her coming back here from the hospital.

She parks up near the fishing office, and we pick her up on our cameras. She flips off in every shot, but she flips off at the wrong angle for our cameras,

“Fuck, look! She’s flipping off all the cameras we removed. She’s flipping off whoever was recording us. What the fuck does that mean?”

Steel and Ares are shaking their heads; it makes no sense.

We see her tear through the place, waiting in the shadows as a bike approaches, and one of the brothers turns up and heads towards the clubhouse before checking his phone and heading to the barn.

“Who the fuck is that? Everyone was at the hospital.”

“It’s fucking Roach. What’s he doing back? I thought he was on an assignment for you?” Steel says to Ares.

“No, he told me he needed to be with Tali and was staying there for a bit.”

“So where the fucking hell has he been?” I spit at them both.

We watch Ray head to the barn, and then, after a while, she leaves on her own.

“What the fuck. Where’s Roach? He doesn't come out, look. We fast forward through the footage but don’t see him leave.

“Is there a dead spot? Could he have slipped out, and we missed it?” Steel’s pacing now. “I thought Roach and her were close. She wouldn’t hurt him, would she?” Ares pulls out his phone and calls him, but nothing. “What if he’s in the kill room?”

“Fuck, can we get in there? Steel asks.

“Dane,” I whisper. “Fuck, Dane can get in.”

Steel’s already pulling out his phone and putting it on speaker.

“Dane, it’s Steel!

“Yeah, I know! What do you want, Steel?”

Just hearing his voice makes my heart race, my mouth goes dry, my palms sweat…

“We need to get into Ray's office. We think Roach is down there.” Steel barks.

“Yeah. No, you don't need to go down there.” Dane replies with no emotion.

“Dane, if he’s been down there all this time with no food, no water, what if—”
