“Georgie.”

Oh oh, she was toast.

His voice a low sexy rasp. She knew there was a complex mix of emotions at play, but she could swear there was an undercurrent of attraction. Riggs was a man of power and action. He could entice and charm, frighten or intimidate, and even this unfortunate incident couldn’t detract from his appeal.

But she wasn’t someone to succumb without careful consideration, and certainly not in this situation.

Hoping she portrayed a competent professional, she walked over, knelt, and picked up the shorts from the floor.

When she raised her head, her gaze landed on another part of his anatomy that was fine, and clearly functional.

Oh my. Riggs was obviously attracted to her. There was no doubt. The physical evidence was right in front of her. It thrilled her. It also drove home a point she’d made to herself just recently. She needed to figure out what to do about Josh.

Ever since she took on Riggs' case, Josh had been different. She’d noticed his sharp tone of voice, the way he talked down to her, or spoke of her in front of other people as if she allowed him to make decisions for her.

To a much lesser degree he’d always had a bit of those tendencies, but it seemed on the uptick of late. Until now, she’d chosen to ignore it. She worked a lot, and when she had time off, she spent it doing things she enjoyed. Skiing—water and snow, biking, hiking, horseback riding, rock climbing, wind surfing or just going for long walks. Since Josh wasn’t the outdoor type, he never accompanied her.

The time they spent together, they did things he liked. He liked to cruise and go to five-star restaurants, museums, art galleries and concerts. Not because he was interested. He wanted to be seen. Josh had a deep yearning to be part of the social scene that drew the attention of the press, to attend events typically attended by celebrities and people in the public eye.

It was odd, particularly considering who his parents were. The CEO of one of the largest hedge funds in the country, his father was a recognizable figure in the financial part of the world. His mother was part of one of the richest families in the world, and definitely considered an A-lister for social events.

Josh wanted to be as highly ranked. In short, he was a social climber. Georgie hadn’t cared. He could be sweet, and sometimes was quite kind. But, as it turned out, he wasn’t the man for her. She’d never had a reaction like this to Josh.

Riggs Walker? That was definitely a horse of a different color.

“Well,” she collected her thoughts. “It’s not every day I find a gorgeous naked man in my lab. Must be my lucky day.”

She stood as she spoke, holding onto the shorts.

“You don’t have to flatter me.”

“Oh, I’m not,” she said honestly, then quickly changed into professional mode, as much for herself as him. She needed to regain focus, and the longer he was naked, the harder it was. “Now, let me help you finish getting dressed, then we can grab your chair andwe’ll get you squared away.”

Within two minutes, he was dressed, and they got busy with the testing. The hours passed quickly. Neither of them mentioned what happened earlier, and she got the feeling he was as unsure whether to bring it up as she.

Because she had no clue what to say about it, she chose to protect herself with a cloak of professionalism, making things easier for both of them so she could pay complete attention to the tests.

“And that’s it,” she said when she finished inputting the last of the data. “If you want to change, we can go over the results before we return to your room. It will take about five minutes to generate the report.”

“Sounds good.”

As she waited for the report to generate, she let her mind wander. The last thing she expected when she was chosen to be part of this case was to have such a strong attraction to the patient.

And yet, here she was, unable to keep Riggs out of her thoughts for five minutes. It wasn’t because she felt sorry for him, or because he was gorgeous, although those things were true. It was what she saw in him. His strength and courage, his determination, and his honor.

How could she not fall for him a little? Or a lot?

“Okay, let me have it – any bad news first.” His voice pulled her out of her own thoughts.

She checked and saw the report was ready. “Come have a seat.”

While she waited on him to take a seat beside her, she opened the report and started reading. “And?” he asked as he sat.

“This is good,” she smiled. “Everything exceeds expectations. I’d say you’re ready.”

“For the next surgery?”

“Yes.”
