“It’s embarrassing,” she said. “I swear all I do is embarrass myself in front of you. From a broken finger dancing, to losing my top in the water bodysurfing. Here I’m minding my own business having a drink, not even an alcoholic one, and I get hit on.”

“I’d say this was more than hit on,” he said. “You probably get hit on all the time.”

And he wasn’t going to let that bother him either. He’d never been a jealous person before and yet was feeling it more and more with Laine.

“As if you don’t?” she asked.

They got to her room, her yawning the whole time, she packed her things and they checked out.

“Can we speak to the manager on shift?” he asked.

“What are you doing?” she asked.

“Please,” he asked the man working the counter again. “I’m sure you’re aware of what happened earlier tonight to my girlfriend and I’d like to speak to a supervisor or security on why it was allowed.”

“Carson,” she said. “Let it go.”

“No,” he said. He was doing what Griffin and Roark told him to do on top of it. He’d explain it more in the car to the airport.

“Just a minute,” the man said, picking up the phone. “Follow me to the other room, please.”

“I want to put this behind me,” she said. “We can deal with it tomorrow. It should be over with. The charges were dropped.”

“We are going to make sure it’s over.”

They were seated in a room and ten minutes later a manager and security officer came in. He was losing his patience over having to wait.

“I understand everything has been handled,” the manager said.

“It has,” he said. “The charges are being dropped.” He pulled a piece of paper out. “We’d like a copy of the video in the bar sent to Laine’s attorney’s office at the start of business today. Bond Law. If we don’t get it, Laine’s attorneys will file a formal complaint against the hotel for not preventing women from being assaulted. I don’t believe you want that publicity from a well-known artist after her gallery showing.”

The manager’s face turned red. He was positive they’d seen the video and then talked to the bartender. The police had more pressing things going on to do any investigation tonight, which was why he flew here to handle this himself. He was positive ifhe hadn’t said he was doing it, then Caleb would have and Laine would probably prefer him to her father.

“No,” the manager said. “Our sincere apologies for what unfolded tonight.”

“I don’t understand why no one spoke up when it was happening,” Laine said, crossing her arms.

She was getting annoyed now and it wasn’t directed at him.

The security officer said, “We do what we are told. He wanted to press charges and there was no talking him out of it. Our hands were tied. The video would have been released to the police once they asked for it. Along with witnesses. We conducted our own investigation.”

“Which should have been done before the police were called,” Carson said. “My family is no stranger to owning hotels and casinos. This type of thing is normally handled in house prior to the police being involved.”

The security officer looked back down to the paper in front of them. He was positive they saw the name Bond Law on it along with the video being sent to Griffin Zale, Director of Security at Bond Casino.

There were more flushed faces at the table.

He wasn’t one for throwing his name around. He knew Caleb sure the hell would, but Laine wasn’t volunteering who she was and he wouldn’t either.

“We are short staffed,” the security officer said. “Again, our apologies. This should have been handled differently.”

Laine let out a huff. “Easy to say now that you’ve got all the facts and I had to spend hours in a jail cell.”

The manager nodded. “I’ll be in contact with our attorneys first thing in the morning and they will reach out to the names on this list. We’ll get this resolved to everyone’s satisfaction.”

“I doubt that,” Carson said, throwing his and Laine’s business cards down on the table. “Please attach everything sent to our attorneys and Griffin to us too.”

“That was rude,” she said when they were in the taxi twenty minutes later. “But so called for.”
