“At eight thousand a piece, he said he told his wife she had to wait for the second piece.”

“Nothing wrong with that,” she said.

She loved when she made sales like that but didn’t often here. She didn’t expect any differently either.

The studio was self-sufficient and gave her a place to have her pottery wheel and kiln. She’d have to rent a space for it anyway, might as well turn it into another business and hope for more revenue.

Sure, she could live her life only producing her art when she wanted, but she didn’t want to do that.

She wanted to share her love in life. Even if it was just with a bunch of women over wine and laughter.

“The vase was a local. Lacy Mills. She has several pieces already. She said this was a gift for her daughter.”

“Ava,” she said, grinning.

“You know Lacy?” Olivia asked. “And Ava?”

“I do,” she said. “Lacy has been in here before. But on top of that, Josie’s best friend is Ava’s stepdaughter. Ava was here not that long ago when Carter proposed.”

“Oh yeah,” Olivia said. “Wish I’d been here that night.”

“It was great,” she said, smiling. “But I’m sure you’ll hear soon enough. I’m dating Carson Mills.”

“Get out,” Olivia said, laughing. “When did that start?”

“Last week,” she said. “He took the X-rays of my finger and we got talking. He checked in on me the next day and we have since had a few dates.”

She wasn’t going to say much more just now. Not that anything was a secret, but she didn’t like to give all the details of her life to her employees.

“Do you think Lacy knows and she was in here looking to talk to you?”

Laine had a feeling that might be part of it. “I’m not sure,” she said. “But she could come back and talk to me if she wanted.”

“I told her you’d be back in a few hours, but she said she had to catch a flight to Boston.”

She nodded. “I’m sure I’ll be seeing her again at some point.”

Her phone rang when she was putting her purse in her office and she noticed it was Carson.

“Hello there,” he said. “How did your appointment go?”

“It went well. Dr. Jensen said pretty much the same thing you did. No damage and should be healed in a few more weeks. He wants another set of X-rays done before then. I’d like to do them when you’re working if I can. You know, keeping it consistent and all.”

He laughed on the other end. “When is the appointment?”

“September thirteenth,” she said.

She heard him clicking and assumed he was checking his calendar.

“I’ll be on days that week. I’m going to be on nights the week before.”

“That’s great,” she said.

No reason to say anything about him being on nights prior. She thought he did a few weeks in a row, but he said his schedule changed all the time.

“Are you working late tonight?”

“I think I’ll be getting out earlier,” she said. “I’ve got a few errands to do. And before I forget, you might find out I had a visitor today.”
