Forgetting about Ruben and Decan, I finished making my way through the stadium until I hit the stands, and it was insane how the crowd was already riled up, and the game hadn’t even started yet. Looking as inconspicuously as I could, I did my best to locate my seat without being noticed. It had taken the internet a whole whopping two hours to find out who I was, and then there’d been no going back after that. I’d actually been trending for the past two days, and it really fucking sucked.

In a matter of moments, I’d gone from being invisible to the masses to being Titan Miller’s first and only girlfriend that the public knew about, and it hadn’t helped when Titan had gone all internet-official on the world, changing his social media relationship statuses. Though my personal social media accounts were private, my work accounts were public, and my following had skyrocketed, and I still had no idea why. Titan was the soccer superstar; why did anyone care about me?

Finally finding my seat, I made myself as comfortable as I could in the bleacher seating, but that wasn’t saying much. I already envisioned my back aching in the morning, but I supposed that I had bigger problems at the moment. Titan’s home games weren’t going to be a problem for us; smile for the cameras, then go on our way. It was his away games that were going to be an issue for us. Everyone would be expecting us to share a hotel room, and why wouldn’t they? After all, that’s what couples did.

As the players began to make their way to the field, the roar of the crowd almost drowned out my thoughts. The seats were actually shaking with excitement as everyone’s favorite players each made an appearance. I wasn’t even sure if rock concerts experience this kind of noise.

When I saw Titan make his way out onto the field, I could feel my face heat with yesterday’s lapse of judgement. My only hope was that the team didn’t allow spouses or girlfriends to room with the players. It was common practice for players to be sequestered with the team only, before and after the games. Women were considered a distraction, especially if they mattered. While the coaches might look the other way when it came to groupies, nothing fucked up a man’s concentration like the woman that he cared about, and no team needed that shit.

At any rate, I needed to speak with Coach Madison to see what their policy was. Despite all my bravado, I wasn’t sure there was any woman on the planet strong enough to stay in the same hotel room as Titan Miller and not give in to those hypnotizing blue eyes. His tattoos were another weakness that I hadn’t realized I’d had.

Thoughts of sexual attraction quickly turned into ones of murder when Titan looked up in my direction, then blew me a kiss in front of the entire goddamn stadium. When the jumbotron helped locate me, I wanted the ground to open up and swallow me whole.

I wanted to kill Titan Miller.

It took exactly five seconds of being stared at like a sideshow freak before I grabbed my purse, stood up, then left. While I was stuck in this clusterfuck of a situation, that still didn’t mean that I had to take Titan’s shit. I’d meant what I’d said about Titan not owing his fans his personal life, and that went for me as well. I didn’t owe these people shit, and that included Titan Miller.

As I stormed my way up the aisle, I was very aware of people taking pictures and videos of me, but there wasn’t anything that I could do about that. People thought that their curiosity and need for ‘likes’ gave them permission to invade other people’s privacy and there was no convincing them otherwise.

No one stopped me as I exited the building, making my way to my car. Yeah, I shouldn’t be leaving because I still had a job to do, but if I didn’t set boundaries with Titan, then he’d walk all over me, and I’d lose all power in this situation.

I pulled out of the parking lot, and I hated how I wasn’t sure what to do next. I hadn’t asked for this, and I sure as hell hadn’t asked for Titan Miller to come into my life. My stomach churned with how I knew what tomorrow morning was going to bring. Once again, I was going to be trending, and it was all Titan Miller’s fault.

Chapter 11

Titan~

You only had to watch one soccer match to know that the entire game was about stamina. There was no downtime during a game. Even the goalkeeper was always on alert, always watching, just as part of the action as the rest of us. Though we were a team, like hockey, the goalies usually got all the glory or all the hate. It wasn’t an easy position to hold, but the fans didn’t care. They believed that their dedication should come with guaranteed wins, but that wasn’t the reality of sports. No matter our skill level, we were still human, and we were still subjected to injuries, aches, pains, and stress.

I played forward for the Wolves, and that meant that I played midfielder in the attack zone. There were eleven players on the field; the goalkeeper, right fullback, left fullback, center back, sweeper, defensive midfielder, right winger, left winger, center midfielder, striker, and attacking midfielder. We all worked together like a well-oiled machine to outsmart the other team, and more often than not, we succeeded.

My position was nearest the opponent’s goal, and my main purpose was to create the opportunities to score goals or score them myself. There was a lot of game awareness in what I did, so it was extremely important that I was able to compartmentalize out here on the field. Forwards were universal and could do it all on the grass. We scored goals, created scoring opportunities for other teammates, found space in the attacking half of the field, had to act quickly, and we supported the defense. Our minds had to be on all aspects of the game, and not for nothing, I was good at what I did, and that was the only reason that I was pushing up against Paulo Martinez, doing my best not to think about the empty seat up in the stands.

Admittedly, blowing Lux that kiss and making her the center of attention had been a bad idea. I could only blame my stupidity on the phone call earlier, her fiery attitude doing weird things to me. Even though I knew that we were only ‘fake dating’, I needed to keep reminding myself of that. Whatever I felt for Lux Leland, I felt as if we were really dating, and that was something that we needed to clear up. Lux may not want to date me for real, but that wasn’t going to stop me from doing my best to win her over.

“As soon as fuckers fall in love, they lose their edge.” Though Paulo had a heavy accent, I heard him perfectly fine.

“Fuck off,” I growled, refusing to let him get in my head.

“Your girl’s hot, Miller,” he cackled, and my fist was about to meet his face.

I dodged his elbow, not caring when another player got dirty on the field. We were grown ass men, and if we couldn’t handle some aggressiveness, then we didn’t belong in sports. Yeah, there was a difference between playing dirty and trying to end someone’s career, but unless Paulo went for my knees or ankles, I could handle whatever he threw my way.

Making the ball dance between my feet, I was able to keep it away from Paulo. Seeing that Kerry had an opening, I kicked the ball his way. When Kerry did his thing and scored, I turned towards Paulo, and the look on his face said it all.

“Now that we’re up two goals, talk about my girl again, and I’ll gladly get ejected from this fucking game,” I told him, though I had to shout over the roar of the crowd.

“Go fuck yourself, Miller,” he fired back, clearly frustrated.

“Maybe you should worry more about the game than my girl,” I kept on.

“Have you picked out baby names yet?” he taunted, and points for him.

With the ball back on the field, I ignored Paulo. I also pushed the thoughts of that empty stadium seat from my mind. I needed to keep my eyes on the ball and my mind on everyone that was on this field. While the score gave us some breathing room, we were conditioned to play at our highest level throughout the entire game; no relaxing for us.

The rest of the game was fought in silence, no more barbs. I had nothing to say, and Paulo was too busy trying to tie the score. Half an hour later, the game was over, we were celebrating another win, and I was acting like a fucking pussy. Even though I knew that Lux wasn’t in the stands, I still looked at her empty seat, wishing that I could celebrate with her, something that I’d never felt before.

“Fuck the Lodi United!” Alonzo yelled, his fists raised in the air.
