After leaving that stupid press conference yesterday, I had immediately called Lita to tell her what was going on. I had also sworn her to secrecy, something that I really hadn’t needed to do. Lita Baruch was as solid as they came, and I knew that she’d never do or say anything to cause me any drama. If she decided to share the news with Timothy, then that was her choice. However, I also knew that Timothy would never say anything. They weren’t my favorite non-family couple for nothing.

When I’d gotten off the phone with her, I had called my stepbrother, letting him in on our little duplicity. He’d gone all big-brother on me, but after assuring him that I had it all under control, he had calmed down a bit, letting me make my own mistakes. That was one of the best things about Joseph; he had no problem catching me when I fell and without the lectures.

The next phone call on my list had been to my parents, and they’d been super supportive, despite the absurdity of the entire situation. They had chosen to give me credit for being an adult, but they had also made it clear that I could always go home if I needed to.

So, after the longest day of my life, I’d gotten off the phone, had taken a long, hot, much-needed bath, then had stared at the ceiling for most of the night. No matter how hard I had tried, I couldn’t get that kiss out of my mind. Titan Miller kissed like he’d been gifted with a superpower, and I still couldn’t believe that I let him finger me inside that conference room. Had it not been for him specifically mentioning my pussy, I would have let him fuck me yesterday, all sense of decency out the window. Pretending to be Titan’s girlfriend was quite different from being hisactualgirlfriend, which I was not, and I had to remember that.

“Because I still have a job to do,” I answered. “I need to make sure that he keeps his mouth shut from here on out.”

“The man is hotter than Hades,” Lita replied. “I have no idea how you’re keeping it together.”

“Who says that I am?” I snorted, making my way through the back of the stadium to attend one of Titan’s home games. “I’m still trying to wrap my mind around it all.”

“I think you should wrap it all around Titan freakin’ Miller,” she retorted, repeating what she’d said yesterday. According to my best friend, I needed to get laid, and who better than Titan Miller for that?

“Things are complicated enough as it is, don’t you think?” I drawled out.

“C’mon, Lux,” she chuckled. “The man asked you to be his pretend girlfriend, not his wife.”

“He didn’taskme to be anything,” I reminded her. “That’s part of the problem.” The closer that I got to the actual stadium, the louder the fan noise became. “Look, Lita, I need to go. I’m already here.”

“Okay,” she replied easily. “Let me know if you need anything.”

After hanging up the phone, I made my way through the building, flashing my credentials more often than I usually needed to. For all that I worked with the Wolves, I never attended any of their games. Up until Titan had thrown me to the wolves-literally and figuratively-I hadn’t wanted there to be any conflicts of interest rumored around my job.

When the decision had been made for me to attend his game, Titan had tried to get me prime seats, but I’d fought against it. Still trying to salvage some of my dignity, I had chosen to purchase the seat that I could afford, and I had also chosen to wear regular clothes. When this was all said and done, I didn’t want any pictures of me in Titan’s jersey floating around on the internet.

As I walked down the corridor, I started to make out the music playing overhead, and I had half a mind to storm the locker room and knock Titan upside his head. Instead, I stopped, pulled my phone out, then dialed the jackass. He might not answer, but I could still leave a voicemail.

“Hey, baby,” he greeted, surprising me that he did answer. “Call to wish me luck?”

“Billie Jean? Really, Titan?”

The fucker laughed.

“Hey, I’m not the one that controls the stadium music,” he said, defending himself.

“It’s not funny, Titan,” I growled into the phone.

“It’s a little funny,” he argued.

“No, it’s not,” I shot back. “The last thing that you want is to give Rachel the sympathy vote.”

“Calm down,” he ordered. “It’s not that serious.”

“That’s your problem, Titan,” I chastised. “You never take anything seriously.”

“I takeyouseriously.”

I snorted. “That’s the biggest lie you’ve told today.”

“I’m not lying,” he replied, and the tone of his voice had me doubting my sanity again.

“Behave, Titan,” I ordered before hanging up on him.

Making my way to my seat, I couldn’t help but think of Ruben and Decan. While I knew that Conrad would keep our secret because of his position with the firm, I wasn’t so sure about Ruben and Decan. Though I’d never had any issues with either man before, it was possible that they might harbor some bitterness over Titan picking my approach instead of theirs. Yeah, Opal and Conrad had sworn them to secrecy, but I still didn’t have the faith in them that Opal and Conrad had.

Or maybe that was just my own guilt.
