“Hell!”

Sinclair pointed a finger at me. “That’s all you this time.”

I wasn’t sure how he had managed it, but Atlas had brainwashed all our kids to like hockey over all the other sports. While one of Raven’s twins was interested in baseball, he was the only one. All the other kids wanted to play hockey, and it kind of sucked from a father’s perspective.

I sat down next to my wife. “No matter what, Iris is going to play basketball.”

“I have a feeling that she’s going to like dolls,” Sinclair said, not caring that she was breaking my heart with her callous words.

“She can like dolls and play basketball, too.”

“Sure, she can,” she replied evenly, though her lips were twitching.

I hauled Sinclair onto my lap. “She’s going to like football, isn’t she?”

“We can always have a third kid,” she suggested. “Raise the odds in your favor.”

I chuckled. “How gracious of you.”

“It really is,” she quipped.

Sinclair’s eyes went back to the screen, and I held her as Legend pretended to play hockey. It was hard not to get emotional whenever we were together like this. Growing up, I never thought I’d ever be this blessed in life. When I’d gotten accepted into college, then drafted into the NBA, asking for more would have felt greedy. Then when Nova had married Sebastian, it’d been more than I could ask for.

However, whenever I was here like this with my family, I always gave a silent thanks to God that Sinclair had loved me enough to give me a second chance. I would have easily given up everything to be with her, but I hadn’t had to, another thanks to God.

“Isn’t it sacrilegious to be rooting for the Spartans while wearing a Hawks t-shirt?” I teased.

“Family loyalty takes priority,” she replied easily. “I’m rooting for family.”

“Whatever helps you sleep at night, baby.”

“Don’t make me buy a Rapids jersey,” she threatened.

“Damn, woman,” I said, letting out a low whistle.

“I don’t play about my football, Orion Knight.”

“I’m very aware, Sinclair Knight.”

She glanced over at me. “I still love the sound of that.”

The woman had no idea.

The End.
