“Good morning, sweetie.” She adjusted the covers over him.

“Where’s Dad?”

“He’s at his house.”

Finn scowled. “I wish he lived with us. I miss him.”

Joey kissed Finn’s forehead. “I miss him too. Do you want to give him a call?”

Finn sat up. “Yeah.”

Joey got her phone from the bedside table and dialed J.T.’s number, then put it on speaker.

“Morning. Is everything okay?”

“Yes. Finn just wanted to say hi. Do you have a minute?”

“Put him on.”

Finn took the phone from Joey. “Hi.”

“Good morning. Did you have a good sleep?”

Finn nodded. “Uh huh. When can I ride a horse again?”

“We might be able to get a ride in before the camp out.”

“The camp out is coming?”

“Yeah. It won’t be long now.”

He grinned. “Cool! I can’t wait.”

“Me either. It’s going to be great. I’ve got to get to work. But you have a good day.”

“Okay.” Finn handed the phone back to Joey.

“J.T.?”

“Still here.”

“I just wanted to thank you again.”

“Save that for when we actually own the place.”

She glanced at Finn. “When are they going to talk to him?”

“I don’t know. Soon, I think.”

“It’s going to be fine, though. Right?”

“I believe so.”

She took a breath. “Okay. I’ll let you get to work. Are you manning a shovel again today?”

“Yeah. Dad’s driving the backhoe.”

“I’m sorry.”
