Joey wiped at her tears. “Okay.”

“Mom. Will you marry my dad so I can be an O’Connell?”

Joey pulled Finn to his feet and kissed him, then turned to J.T. “Stand up so I can kiss you, too.”

J.T. got to his feet and opened the box. “You need to accept this first.”

She gasped again at the sight of the ring. “Oh my gosh, it’s beautiful.”

He took out the diamond ring and put it on her finger. It fit perfectly and she looked at it for a moment, then looked at him. “J.T. O’Connell, I love you so much.” She nodded and wiped her eyes again. “Yes. I will definitely marry you.”

She hugged him and then kissed him while Finn clapped. “Yay!”

J.T. picked him up and took the flowers from him, then handed them to Joey. “You are already an O’Connell, kid.” Hehugged Joey again, and she put her arms around them both as he spoke into her ear. “Was that a story-worthy proposal?”

“It was perfect.”

He stepped away from her and put Finn down. “It’s not over. Go get dressed.”

“I am dressed.”

“Go put on something worthy of your two handsome escorts.”

“Are we going somewhere?”

“Just go change out of your jeans.”

While they waited for Joey, J.T. put the flowers in water and put them in the middle of the table. Then he and Finn finished the dishes. He was drying the last plate when she came back to the kitchen in a black dress which fit well in all the right places.

J.T. whistled. “Where have you been hiding that?”

“Am I overdressed?”

“No.” He went to her and kissed her. “It’s ah…wow.”

“So, what’s next? The suspense is killing me.”

He took her hand and went into the living room, with Finn right behind them. When he went to the door, she looked at him. “Do I need my purse?”

“Bring it if you want. But you don’t need it.”

She shrugged and J.T. opened the door. Then they went to his truck, and he opened the door for her.

“It’s so clean inside?”

“I had it detailed.”

“It doesn’t smell the least bit like cows or sawdust.”

“Then they did a good job.”

Finn got in and sat in the middle. Then J.T. helped Joey get in, which was made more difficult by her dress and heels.

When J.T. got in behind the wheel, she smiled at him. “Where are we going?”

“Not far.”

He backed out of the driveway, then headed in the direction of town. A few minutes later, he pulled in front of the bakery and stopped.
