Sage reached around J.T. and patted Sawyer’s shoulder. “There’s someone out there for you. Someone who doesn’t mind the fact you get punched in the face on a regular basis.”

“I rarely get punched in the face.”

J.T. shook his head. “Guys. Focus. Is this the one?”

They both said, “yes,” at the same time.

J.T. looked at the woman. “I guess this is the one.”

“If the size is wrong, we can size it for her.”

Sawyer leaned on the case. “What if she says no? Is there a refund policy?”

J.T. turned and scowled at him. “Seriously?”

“I’m kidding. She’s already said yes, right?”

With a sigh, J.T. turned back to the woman. “Just ignore him.”

“I’ll get a box.”

Fifteen minutes later, they left the store with the wedding ring set. Sawyer opened the truck door for Sage. “Man, that cost more than my first truck.” He got in next to Sage. “Can we go to Pizza Blast now?”

J.T. started the motor. “Yeah. But pizza’s on you.”

Chapter forty-four

"Oh, how I wish that were true."

It was late Sunday afternoon and Joey had made a delicious mid-afternoon dinner of fried chicken, wonderfully seasoned country potatoes, fresh green beans from Aunt Genny’s garden, and homemade biscuits.

J.T. leaned back in his seat. “Wow. That was fantastic.”

Joey smiled. “Thank you. I have dessert, too.”

He raised a hand. “I can’t. Maybe later.”

She stood and picked up her plate and Finn’s. “Are you guys going to help me with the dishes?”

“Um…we’re right in the middle of a massive adventure on his tablet. But if you really need help?”

She shook her head. “It’s fine. But once this becomes a regular thing…”

“I know. I grew up washing dishes. I’m not going to stop now.” He stood and carried his plate to the sink, then kissed her. “I’ve got a treasure to find.”

“Go. I’ve got this.”

She was halfway through the dishes when she heard J.T. clear his throat behind her. She glanced over her shoulder, then turned around and gasped. J.T. and Finn were both dressed in jeans and black shirts. And they were both on one knee. J.T. had a small box in his hand. And Finn had a bouquet of flowers.

“Oh, my gosh. What’s happening?”

J.T. nodded toward the sink. “Turn off the water and dry your hands.”

She did as he said, then turned back to them. “J.T.?”

He smiled. “I have a question for you.” She nodded, and he went on. “My darling Josephina. Will you do me the honor of being my wife?”

Before she could respond, Finn smiled. “I have a question too.”
