“Don’t let me keep you. Go enjoy it while it’s cold.”

He nodded. “I’ll see you around.” He went to the table and sat across from Sawyer, then picked up his beer and took a long drink.

Sawyer cocked his head. “What the hell, man? What’s going on?”

“That’s Joey’s son.”

Sawyer looked at the boy, who was now laughing with Joey at the bar. “She has a kid?”

“Yes. And no. I didn’t know.” He set his mug down and wrapped his hands around it.

Sawyer leaned forward on the table. “Dude. How old is that kid?”

“I don’t know. She didn’t—” He shook his head and looked closely at Sawyer. “No. She wouldn’t do that to me.”

“Are you sure? From what little you’ve said, it was a pretty ugly breakup.”

J.T. glanced at Joey and Finn. “Yeah. No matter how we left things, she wouldn’t keep that from me.”

“But is it possible? Did you and she…?”

“Yes we did. But no.” He took a sip of beer.

“Okay.” Sawyer drank some of his beer. “It’s just that—”

“No.” It came out harsher than he meant it to, and he took a breath. “It’s not possible.”

Sawyer raised his hands. “Fine.” He spotted Sage heading for them and scowled when she sat down at the table. “Is this drinking with your brothers going to become a thing?”

Sage ignored him and looked at J.T. “What’s wrong?”

“Nothing.” He glanced at Joey and Finn again. “I need to go get some air.” He stood and left the table, leaving his half-glass of beer behind.

Sage looked at Sawyer. “What’s going on?”

Sawyer nodded toward Joey and Finn, who were headed out of the tent. “It seems Joey has a kid.”

“That’s Joey’s child?”

“Yes.”

“Sawyer?”

“I know.”

“He’s like five years old, right?”

“I’m not a good judge of that.”

“Sawyer!”

He leaned back in his chair. “Yes. He’s probably five years old.”

“Oh my gosh.”

“We don’t know anything. So don’t go jumping to conclusions.”

“Conclusions like that’s J.T. son and Joey never told him about it?”
