“Well, that’s cool.”
After they visited with all of the pigs, goats, and sheep, they headed for the barn. Finn was even more impressed by the horses.
“Mom, can I ride one?”
“Not today, honey. But I’m sure J.T. would love to take you for a ride soon.”
J.T. nodded. “You bet.”
“Yay!”
J.T. introduced him to all of the horses and told him who they belonged to and what their jobs were. Then he showed him thebarn cat, who was a week or so away from having her kittens. While Finn petted her, J.T. took Joey aside.
“I saw Finn with a scruffy wild cat the other day. Jinx is about to deliver. Would it be okay if I let Finn pick out a kitten when they’re ready to leave their mom?”
“He is obsessed with that stray cat. A kitten would be great.” She watched Finn for a moment. “And thanks for asking first.”
“I can be cooperative.”
“I know. I’ve got no complaints.” She smiled. “So far.”
“Will you let me get him up on a horse one of these days?”
“Yes. I don’t have a problem with horses, as you should remember.”
“You were passionate about them.”
“Why do you think I went out with you?”
“Hmm. Now you tell me. I thought it was because of my dashing good looks and charming personality.”
“That was just a bonus.”
Finn ran to them and looked up at Joey. “Mom. Can I have a cat? J.T. told me he would find me a good cat.”
“We were just talking about that. Jinx is going to have kittens soon.”
“A kitten?”
“Yes. And after they’re born, you can come and pick one out.”
He jumped up and down and clapped his hands. “Then we can take it home?”
“When it gets old enough to leave it’s mom. So it’ll be a month or so.” She looked at J.T. “A month and a half?”
He nodded. “About that, yeah.”
Finn thought about it. “Okay. I can wait.”
She patted his head. “Good boy.”
He looked at J.T. “Where are your dogs?”
“They should be around here somewhere. They like to hang out with my dad. So, when he gets back, they’ll be with him.”
“Is your dad going to be at dinner?”
“Yes. And my granddad.”
