“Is he old like my papa?”

“Um…I wouldn’t call him old. Especially to his face. But he’s older than me and my dad.”

Finn seemed satisfied with that answer, and after saying goodbye to Jinx, they headed for the door. Before they got to it, three of the dogs ran in, followed by Jake. The dogs all ran to Finn and Joey to check them out.

Finn giggled and tried to pet them all.

Jake smiled. “Hi. You must be Finn.”

Finn looked up at him. “Yes, sir.”

“I’m Jake. J.T.’s dad.”

“I’m Finn.”

Jake grinned. “Nice to meet you, Finn.” He looked at Joey. “How’re you doing, Joey?”

“I’m fine. Thank you, Mr. O’Connell.”

“I think under the circumstances, you can call me Jake.”

“Okay, Jake.”

“I need to put this horse away. But I’ll see you at dinner.”

J.T. nodded. “See you in a bit, Dad.” They left the barn, and he glanced at Joey, who was smiling. “What?”

“Your dad. He’s so good looking.”

“I’ll tell him you think so.”

She put a hand on his arm. “No. Don’t, please.”

“I’m kidding. I wouldn’t want it to go to his head.”

“Sawyer looks so much like him. In a really beefed up sort of way.”

J.T. scowled. “So, you think Sawyer’ssogood looking, too?”

Joey smiled. “I think the whole O’Connell family is attractive.”

“Even granddad?”

“Yes. Even your granddad.”

J.T. glanced at her. “Everyone who’s seen Finn and knows…think’s he looks like an O’Connell.”

“He definitely does.”

He studied her for a moment. “And you’re fine with that?”

“Of course.”

J.T. laughed. “I bet it pisses your dad off.”

“I’m sure it does.”

They went into the house through the mudroom and found Jacob cooking dinner.
