“Will you shower with me?”

He squinted at her. “Yes. But no hanky panky.”

They headed for the bathroom and Jake turned on the water.

“Will you at least wash my hair?”

“Yes.”

“I like when you wash my hair.”

“I know you do.”

They got into the shower and even though Ember tried her best to get Jake interested in at least a little hanky panky, he fended her off and got out after a few minutes. She turned off the water and wrapped a towel around herself.

“Jake O’Connell, I believe you’re an old fuddy-duddy.”

He was drying his hair, and he stopped and looked at her. “Fuddy-duddy? And excuse me? Old?”

She smiled. “Sorry. I take back the old part.”

He set his towel on the counter and went to her, then released her tucked in towel and letit drop to the floor. He kissed her neck and her breasts, then continued down toward her belly button. She laughed and put her hands on his head and pulled it up in front of hers.

“Fine. You’re not a fuddy-duddy.”

“Are you sure? Because I can keep going.”

“As nice as that sounds. I don’t want to be the reason the family Christmas tree adventure gets off to a late start.”

“Okay.” He picked up her towel and handed it to her, then patted her rear. “Get dressed.”

He headed for the door and she snapped his bare butt with the towel.

He turned and looked at her. “Whoa. And ouch. Where’d you learn how to do that?”

She put a hand to her mouth. “It’s one of my many hidden talents you’ve yet to discover.”

He pointed at her. “I hope the rest of them don’t sting like that.”

“I’m sorry.”

“I owe you one.” He opened the door. “Now get dressed. And dress warm. It snowed last night.”

She followed him into the bedroom. “How do you know?”

“I can smell it.” He opened the curtains as she came up beside him. “There were three inches of fresh snow on the ground with snow flurries in the air.”

“Oh my gosh. It’s beautiful. The horses don’t mind the snow?”

“No. It won’t slow them down.” He put on his underwear and a t-shirt, then a long-sleeved thermal and a flannel shirt. Under his jeans, he put on thermal bottoms and wool socks.

Ember watched him. “I don’t have any of that stuff.”

He smiled. “Put on what you have, and you can borrow the rest from Sage.”

“Are you sure she’ll be okay with that?”

“Of course. Why wouldn’t she?”
