Jake raised up onto an elbow. “You know I can afford to pay the way for anyone you want to come. Don’t let the travel expense stop you from inviting anyone you want. Grandparents, old school chums. Whoever.”

“Thank you.”

“Don’t thank me. What’s mine is yours. And I’ve been blessed. The Three Oaks is quite a successful entity.”

She looked at him. “I guess I should sell my house at some point.”

“Whenever you’re ready to do that. Or keep it. It’s up to you.”

“No. I wouldn’t want to let it sit empty. And I don’t want to rent it out. I’ll sell it. Or maybe turn it over to Scott.”

“There you go. That sounds like a good idea.”

“I’ll run it by him. Since his divorce, he’s been renting.”

“And what about a honeymoon? Where would you like to go? Anywhere you want.”

She smiled. “There is somewhere I’d like to go with you.”

“Where’s that?”

“Schaeffer Mills.”

Jake laughed. “That sounds like a perfect honeymoon spot.”

“I’ll make a reservation at Casa Scott.” She started to get up.

“Where are you going?”

“To get us some coffee.”

“Will you bring me another piece of fudge?”

Chapter forty-one

"Its no Chocolatey Chippity, though."

Jake and Ember were sitting on the couch in front of the fireplace with just the lights of the Christmas tree on. Everyone else had gone to bed, and the house was quiet. Rosie was on the floor at Jake’s feet.

He pulled Ember in close and kissed her temple. “And that was Christmas with the O’Connell family.”

She sighed contentedly. “It was wonderful.”

He leaned forward and reached for the last cookie from a plate on the coffee table. It was from one of the batches made on Cookie day. Sawyer had gotten back in time, so they didn’t have to postpone it. He’d come back with another win under his belt and a black eye. They’d spent the day making dozens of cookies, and now they were down to the last one.

He snuggled back into Ember and held it out to her. “Do you want the last cookie?”

“Can we share it?”

Jake broke it in half and handed her the bigger side.

She looked at it for a moment. “Who’s are these?”

“J.T.’s Peanut Brittle Crunch.”

She took a bite. “Mmm. So good.”

“It’s no Chocolatey Chippity, though.”
