“Yes. Will you think about it?”

Ember shrugged. “I don’t need to. She’s in.”

Sage laughed. “We don’t have to wear lame bridesmaid dresses, do we?”

“You can wear whatever you want.”

“Jeans?”

“No. Something a little more special than jeans. You, Genny, and I will find something we all like.”

“Do you have a dress yet?”

“No. I don’t suppose you’d like to help me with that.”

Sage smiled. “We’d have to go to Billings to find something.”

“Maybe we can make a weekend of it. Genny can come too if she can leave her birds that long.”

“Sawyer will go watch her birds for her. He hates cows. But he thinks birds are cool. The wedding’s less than a month away.”

“I know. It’s so close, now.”

“We should go this weekend.”

Ember nodded. “It’s a date.”

On Sunday afternoon, Ember found Jake in the barn unsaddling Chief. She snuck up behind him and put her arms around his waist.

He laughed. “I told you to behave. My fiancé is due home anytime.”

He turned and Ember put her arms around him. “She won’t be home for hours.”

He pulled her in for a kiss. “I missed you. That was two really long days. I hope you at least found what you were looking for.”

“I did.” She kissed him again, then stepped away from him and took his hand. “I bought the best wedding dress ever. I’m pretty sure you’re going to love it.”

“Are you going to tell me what it looks like?”

“No. You have to wait until February second.”

“Hmm. Are you sure you don’t want to runoff to the Justice of the Peace? We could go tomorrow. You could even wear your dress.”

“I think our families might have a problem with that.”

“I suppose.”

He pulled her in for a kiss, then stepped away when he heard, “Whoa! Shit. Sorry.” J.T. had come into the barn and had turned away from them. “Should I come back later?”

“What do you need, son?”

J.T. turn back to them. “Bill Wilder brought that horse by.”

“I’ll be out in a minute.”

J.T. waved. “Take your time. I’ll help Bill get him unloaded.”

Jake looked at Ember. “I have to go do my cowboy thing.”
