“Figured. Sugar seems to be your best friend.”

While they stood in line, they received looks and smiles alike. When it was their turn to order, Vivi still hadn’t figured out which flavor she wanted, and Lincoln scowled at anyone who impatiently tapped their feet.

“Stop that,” she whispered.

“They can fuck off,” he muttered. “As far as I’m concerned, the only important person in here is you.”

She grinned, his words sending a jolt of desire through her. Finally, she ordered salted caramel ribbon and butter pecan, and he asked for a single scoop of chocolate.

“That’s it?”

He raised an eyebrow. “Yeah. Why?”

“It’s kinda vanilla.”

“No, it’s chocolate.”

“I meant, it’s a little bit, you know, plain. I hope you aren’t vanilla in bed.”

“What if I poured chocolate on you and licked it up?”

She swallowed and arousal shot through her. “I would say we should get to a bedroom soon, by way of the grocery store.”

He winked.

They ate their cold treat before it could melt and after throwing away the napkins, they sat on a bench to soak up the sun. Vivi stretched her legs out and tilted her head back, closing her eyes against the sun.

“Let’s play Twenty Questions,” she murmured.

“Okay.” He mimicked her pose, kicking out his legs.

“Do you think chocolate would kill a werewolf?”

“I admit I didn’t think that would be the first question.” He thought for a moment. “Well, they’re canines so I would have to go with yes. Unless their supernatural powers could help them metabolize theobromine.”

“There’s that college degree of yours coming into play.”

“You’ve not been to college?”

She shrugged. “That was never one of my ambitions. What’s your favorite dinosaur?”

“I’m not sure if I’m acquainted with all the dinosaur names, but those mean motherfuckers in the firstJurassic Parkmovie were cool.”

“Velociraptors.”

He snapped his fingers and pointed. “Yeah. That’s them.”

“They are pretty badass. Mine would be triceratops. They’re like three-horned unicorns on steroids. Or would that make them a tricorn?”

Lincoln chuckles. “That sounds funny.”

She grinned. “Yeah, it does. What’s the weirdest thing you’ve ever done?”

“Letting a very short but beautiful woman talk me into riding off into the sunset.”

She punched him on his arm but it was like a fly hitting a windshield. Needless to say, he didn’t feel it, unlike her. She winced and shook her fist. He raised her hand and kissed her knuckles.

“Sorry my muscles are tight and hard.”
