“Agreed,” Colin said.

“Did Fiona confess?” Wolf asked.

“Not in so many words, but she had no answers for all the questions and was stunned we knew so much. We told her you were alive, and that sort of took the wind out of her sails. She kept denying responsibility for anything until we began bringing up her dead husbands.”

“What? What dead husbands?” he asked.

“Oh, she has three of them. All older, rich, and no heirs when she married them.”

“Holy shit!” Wolf muttered.

“She was shocked that we knew she’d been to the open house and flustered that we knew she was paying hit men out of an account owned by a Mary Ingalls, the name she’d given to Amalie at the open house. But when we mentioned disinterring her dead husbands to check for suspicious deaths, and that anything happening to Amalie now would seal her guilt, she passed out.”

“This is a nightmare,” Wolf said.

“You married a black widow and nearly became number four,” Colin said.

“I’ve got to call my men,” Wolf said. “After that, I’m heading to Jubilee. I need to know when you put Fiona behind bars.”

“As soon as she wakes up, that’s where she’s going,” Colin said.

“Then I’ll call off my PI. I had him tailing her.”

“Yes, she’s not going anywhere, and we’re not through interrogating her.”

“Thanks for calling,” Wolf said, and hung up, then immediately called his men on the ground in Jubilee.

As soon as he gave them an update, he sent Amalie a text.

Fiona in custody, but feds have reason to suspect she has already sent someone after you. Go home and stay there. I have men in place. I’m on my way, and your local police are being notified.

Wolf hit Send, then sent Jack Fielding a text.

Send me an invoice for what I owe you. Target is in jail and isn’t coming out.

Then he grabbed the last of his things and took them to the car. One last walk-through of the house, turning off lights and locking doors, and he was gone.

Jubilee Police Chief Sonny Warren was finishing up a report before heading home for the day when his desk phone rang. He hit Save, and then answered.

“Chief Warren.”

“Chief Warren, this is FBI Special Agent Colin Ramsey. I’m the lead investigator on the chopper crash that happened in your jurisdiction.”

Sonny frowned. “I caught your press conference this morning.”

“Yes, well, then you need to know that our chief suspect in the crash is Outen’s wife. She is in custody, but we have reason to believe she’s already put a hit out on Outen’s daughter, who’s now living in Jubilee. We know for a fact that his wife paid a visit to the daughter this past Friday, introducing herself under an assumed name. There are pictures of their meeting. Outen has identified the photos as those of his wife.”

“Holy shit,” Sonny muttered. “We can definitely put a detail on the daughter. What’s her name?”

“Amalie Lincoln. Outen informed us that he’s already sent a security team to Jubilee and they’ve been watching her back since their arrival. But our problem has accelerated. You need to be aware of the security team’s presence and that this young woman’s life is in danger.”

Sonny flashed on the face of the young CPA he’d visited at her open house on Friday.

“I know her. I know Sean Pope, her significant other. Two of Pope’s brothers are on my police force.”

“Small-town vibes, eh?” Colin said. “So, touch base with Miss Lincoln and Sean Pope to let them know you are aware. Outen has likely already notified his daughter and his team as he’s upping the security.”

“Yes, sir. We’re on it,” Sonny said.
