“Of course. He’s no bother at all. I’ll get him some water while I get you a drink. What will you have?”

“Have any bourbon left?” He grinned slyly.

I tipped my head back as I laughed. “Well, considering I’ve been out and bought a case, and that was only today… Yeah, I think it’s safe to say I have some left.” He laughed with me as I stood to go inside.

“Have a seat, I’ll be right back.” I brought Simba some water and returned with two glasses of bourbon neat. I handed him the drink and sat beside him on the double lounger. I felt his body heat radiating off him and warming my side. It felt easy being around him, and we had a lot in common. It was relaxing, yet weird at the same time. I loved how well we got along as we sat there and talked; the hours simply slipped away. I finally realized he wasn’t so shy and quiet; he seemed to have let his guard down and was opening up.

“Hi, Simba,” I said through the door, noticing he had met me as I punched the keycode into the keypad to unlock it. He sat there wagging his tail, starved for attention. I bent down and gave the dog a good belly rub.“Good boy, did you miss me? Okay, let me inside, buddy. That’s a good boy!” I continued to pet his head as I locked the door behind me. It had been a long day, with a lot of tasks checked off my list. I felt I’d put in a full day's work and went to change into my lounge pants.

Returning to the kitchen, I freshened up the dog’s water and washed his food dish, setting it in the strainer on the counter. After flipping through the mail and making my customary piles of bills versus junk, I grabbed a drink and went out to the lanai. I closed my eyes as Simba settled in beside me.

Memories of the way Liv felt in my arms flooded my mind. Her breasts had felt so firm against me just hours before. I cleared my thoughts, knowing I was going down a dangerous road of displeasure. As I was sipping my drink, the phone started ringing and with a start, I jumped a bit out of my little rendezvous with the sexy blonde next door; noticing it was my mom, I picked up.

“Hey Mom, what’s up?”

“I was wondering if you wanted to come to dinner next Sunday. Your sister and her husband will be here, as well as your Aunt Tosha.” I listened to her with a smile, contemplating if I was up for yet another family dinner. Deciding I was lucky to have them all, an unexpected idea crossed my mind.

“Sure, that would be fine. Hey, I might ask a friend to come along if that’s okay?”

“You know, the more the merrier, Parks.”

I laughed and knew that to be true. “Okay Mom, I’ll see you then, and I'm sure I’ll talk to you before as well. I love you.”

“Love you too.”

I walked back out to the lanai to sit, thinking about asking Liv to go with me to my mom and dad’s. I didn’t know how long she’d be around, but I knew the house would take at least a month to sell if she put it on the market. I also didn’t understand why she’d say yes, except maybe because Nikki and Derrick would be there.

Only five minutes had passed before I heard someone ring the doorbell. What is this, Grand Central tonight? I mumbled as I went to the front door. Looking through the peephole, Kayla stood on the other side of the door. I took a deep breath, told Simba to quiet down, and opened the door.

“Kayla, what brings you by?”

“I figured you’d be home and wanted to see if you had any pliers.”

“Sure, follow me.” I motioned for her to come in, and we headed towards the garage. I changed my mind after handing her the pliers and telling her I’d get them back tomorrow. It had been a minute since we’d caught up with each other.

“Hey, why don’t you come over for dinner tomorrow? We can catch up. I know I was away for the tournament, so now we can hang out,” I offered. She agreed to the idea and said she’d bring the pliers, drinks, and dessert when she came. We set it upfor around five. I escorted her to the door and wished her a good night.

Yawning, I ran my hands through my hair, then looked around for Simba.Where did he go to now?I wondered. I called out for him in a little more than a whisper since it was getting late. I didn’t want to disturb the neighbors. Nothing. I went inside and called his name as I searched every room in the house. It was not like Simba just taking off.

“Shit,” I said to no one, then went out back and looked down both sides behind the houses. With no sign of Simba, I took one guess and figured he went to visit my beautiful neighbor again. It dawned on me he might like her as much as I did. I scolded myself for not closing the door while getting the pliers. I grabbed my watered-down gin and continued towards Liv’s place.

“Simba, where are you?” About that time, I saw him being petted by the most beautiful woman in the world. I stopped in my tracks and watched for a moment. I didn’t want to seem like a peeper, so I eventually cleared my throat and approached them.

“There you are, Simba.” I smiled down at them. Liv looked breathtaking in her silk robe that hung loosely on her body, almost showing her breasts; with one slip, I’d see a nipple. Warmth swept through me as I whispered a special thanks to God for the darkness and the fact that I was standing in the shadows. She stood up and brushed down her robe. I could see the glow of pink forming on her face, showing her embarrassment that I’d caught her in such a compromising state.

“Good evening, Parker. How are you? It’s been a few days since you and Simba have come calling. Can I get you something to drink?” She said with a smile and a little laugh.

“Good evening; sorry for the intrusion again. He seems to prefer it here rather than at home. Don’t you, Simba? I’d love that drink; it’s been a hectic few days. How have you been?” I asked as my eyes darted in warning to Simba.

“I’ve been good. No problem at all. I enjoy Simba’s company, as well as yours. Have a seat. I’ll be right back with your drink.” She motioned toward a lounge, which was plush with pillows of different shades of blue and green. Once she returned, handed me my drink, and retrieved hers, she sat back on the lounge beside me; Simba made himself at home and laid down at our feet.

“Do you work?” I asked her, looking out at the water. It was dark, but the stars were abundant, and the moon shone bright, leaving a kiss of light on the soft waves.

“Yes, I’m a model. I model clothes for most major suppliers, you know, the people you see in the catalogs for, say, Venus or Macy’s.” I slowly turned to look at her, not surprised, because she was beautiful.
