She smacks my shoulder. “I’m serious.” She swallows. “There are a lot of temptations on the road.”

“No one compares to you, Indy. No one.”

She scowls. “You’re not taking my concerns seriously.”

“I am. Trust me. I am. Besides, we’re not touring for at least a year.”

“What?”

“We need a break. We’re supposed to be on break now, but our producer insisted we get this album done first.”

“What about after the year’s up?”

I shrug. “We’ll figure it out. Do you know if you want to stay in Winter Falls after this year?”

Her nose wrinkles. “No.”

I kiss her nose. “Then, we’ll figure it out together. And when we go on tour again, you’ll visit as often as you can and I’ll come home in between shows.”

“I don’t want you to change your whole life for me.”

“You don’t get it yet, Indy. I would change everything for you. I’ll stop touring altogether if you want.”

“The band would resent me.”

“No, we won’t!” Jett shouts through the door.

She buries her face in my shoulder. “Is everyone listening at the door?”

“Just the band!” Gibson answers.

“And his brothers!” Elder adds.

“Can you forgive him soon?” Brody asks. “I think Soleil’s in labor.”

“What?” She tears away from me and flings the door open. “Your girlfriend’s in labor? What are you doing here?”

Brody grins and points to Soleil at the end of the hallway. “She won’t go to the hospital until you forgive Cash.”

“I’d forgive a man if he sang a song to me on national television,” Soleil says as she waddles closer.

Brody growls at her. “But you won’t because you love me and are having my baby.”

She shrugs. “It’s always good to have a backup plan.”

“You should probably forgive him already,” Fender says.

Indy plants her hands on her hips and scowls at him. “Why should I listen to you?”

“Cash promised the band would play tonight. And the natives are getting restless.” He points toward the crowd at the end of the hallway. Miller is holding them back now but they’ll break through soon.

“Fine!” She throws her arms in the air. “I forgive him but if he breaks my heart again, I will come for you. All of you.” She points to each of the band members and my brothers in turn.

I shackle her wrist and drag her back into the storeroom. I slam the door closed behind us before pushing her up against a wall. She gasps and I meld my lips to hers. My tongue doesn’t wait to invade her mouth. I want to soak up her taste. The taste I’ve been missing because I’m an idiot.

I’m no longer an idiot. I won’t let anything come between us again. Not her mom. Not my fame. She’s stuck with me.

Bang! Bang! Bang!
