“My gut told me there were issues with that asshat. What the fuck? Did you say he has a woman himself now?” He had taken a woman under his nose? He really had become distracted by his redhead. He just hoped someone else didn’t have to pay the price for his distraction.

“Yeah, word on the street is this time he set his sights on someone higher. She was not the typical runaway or whore, some professional lady.” Carlos shrugged.

Derrick felt the wind knocked out of him at this. It couldn’t be. “Professional?” He held his breath.

“I think she was a lawyer or doctor or some shit. Word is that he saw her at some club and decided he had to have her. If she survives, he will get bored soon enough and sell her to someone else.”

Derrick grabbed his lapel before he even thought about his actions. “Where the hell has he taken her?”

“You need to chill the fuck out. All I know is he has three houses in the Clarksburg area, and none of them are in his name. He moves the women between them before shipping them out of the country. With the money and power his father brings to the table, you are likely too late to find his latest plaything. The best you can hope for is to stop him before the next one.” He shrugged Derrick off, apparently not at all concerned about the act of aggression.

Sheer terror had taken over Derrick’s mind as he ran back to his car. Once he was in the driver’s seat, he dialed Samantha’s number and as he suspected, it went straight to voice mail. He started the car and took off like a bat out of hell to get back to the house where they were staying.

When he pulled in, he threw the car in gear and ripped the keys from the ignition before running to the front door and slamming it open. “Dean,” he yelled as he sprinted to the room where Dean had set up his equipment. “I need you to find Kyle McAllister. He’s the fucker we’ve spent all this time looking for, and he has taken another woman.”

“So, we have a name. Tell me everything you know about him. I don’t have to tell you that even the smallest details will help me find him. And you need to seriously calm down. You’re acting like the fucker has your mother. I’ve never seen you lose your cool like this. Whatever is going on, you need to get your fucking head on straight and now, before I call and have you removed from this case myself.” Dean turned toward his computer without waiting for a response.

Derrick wanted to be pissed, but Dean was right. Going off half-cocked wouldn’t help anyone, especially Samantha. He couldn’t even be sure she was the one who had been taken, though his gut told him he was right.

“I know, but I think the fucker has my woman. I’ve tried calling, but the calls go straight to voice mail. She is a doctor who never turns her phone off.” He could barely get the words out.

“Tell me what you know.” Of course, Dean would back him up. They had worked together too long for him not to. After taking her information, Dean attempted to trace her phone only to find it must have been turned off because there was nothing to find.

They spent the next hour going over everything Derrick had learned in doing his background checks for the club, and everything he had done to try to learn more after Kyle had seen Samantha, which he was embarrassed to admit was not nearly as much as he had hoped to find. They started gathering background information on his father and were able to find several homes owned by dummy corporations with slight links to the McAllister family.

“I’m taking the jet back to Clarksburg. Send the information to my phone.” He left the room to grab his bag, which he’d never bothered to unpack.

“I’ll have a Team at the airport ready to go. We will get your woman back.” The finality in his voice had Derrick almost convinced. He refused to let his mind go to what could be happening to Red. He wouldn’t be any good at what he needed to do, and he refused to be the reason they didn’t find her.

Once Derrick was seated on the plane, he pulled out his personal phone and called Matthew. It was possible the women were together, and though his gut told him it wasn’t the case, he found himself hoping she was with her friends and just ignoring his call. “Hey, Derrick. I thought you were on assignment. What’s going on?” Matthew would be aware he wouldn’t be calling without a reason.

“Have you seen Samantha?” He didn’t have the patience for small talk at the moment.

“No, dude. In fact, she was supposed to meet with Elaine for dinner but didn’t show up. Maybe she got called into the hospital.”

“Did she call and cancel?”

“What the hell is going on, man? You’re starting to worry me.” Matthew’s voice grew in volume.

“Samantha’s been taken.” He couldn’t bring himself to say more.

“When do you land?” Matthew knew him well.

“I’m on the jet now. We should land by nine.” He took a deep breath to center himself. He could do nothing to make the flight faster, and losing his shit wasn’t an option.

“We’ll be there.” Matthew hung up. Derrick wasn’t surprised he didn’t say goodbye; he never did. He didn’t wonder who Matthew meant by we because they would all be there, no questions asked. When one of them was in need, they all showed up in force no matter what. Something about that calmed Derrick more than the Team that would be there as well. They were going to get his woman back no matter what it took.

It felt like her eyes were weighted down as Samantha tried to open them, completely confused as to what had happened. Her muscles were sore like after a night of sleep where she hadn’t moved at all. Had she gotten drunk going out with Lainie? She had never been so drunk she blacked out before, so that couldn’t be it, could it?

Nothing made any sense as she fought for awareness only to be more confused once she was able to focus on her surroundings. It was dark, smelled musty, and she could swear she was lying on concrete. She stretched out her legs, but, as she attempted to force herself to a sitting position, her arms wouldn’t budge. What the hell? She was chained to a wall by her wrists.

Fear started to take over as she fought to get free. Nothing was adding up.

“Well, well, well. What have we here?” A terrifying voice came from behind her. She forced herself to calm her breathing and still her efforts to get free. Panicking would not help her. She needed to have her wits about her if she was going to figure out what was going on and how to get out of her situation.

She tried to turn toward the voice but couldn’t manage to get far enough around to see.
